Four traffic police officers were detained on Thursday by Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) detectives for extorting drivers on the Embu-Siakago Road.

After being apprehended, the officers—all of whom were stationed at the Kiritiri Police Station in Embu—were taken to the EACC Integrity Center Police Station for further processing.

They were later detained at the Kilimani Police Station, where they are being held pending their court appearance.

Officers include Corporal Maurice Mwakachora, Police Inspector Sammy Cherogony, and Police Constables Adan Mohamed Iman and Fozia Hallake.

The arrests take place in the midst of an EACC-led campaign to root out rogue traffic cops who are extorting money and accepting bribes from drivers on busy highways.
