Mathare flood victims have received assurances from President William Ruto that his administration will assist them.

Speaking during a surprise visit on Monday, the President stated that the administration is dedicated to making sure that every impacted family has access to enough food.

He claimed that money had been set aside by the government to give them food supplies.

“The government will stand with you. Hakuna mwananchi atalala njaa, hakuna mtoto atalala njaa. Tumeweka pesa ya kutosha ya kununua chakula ya kila mtu ameathirika hapa nairobi na Kenya mzima…” Ruto said.

This loosely translates to, “No one will sleep hungry. No child will sleep hungry. We have enough money to buy food for everyone who has been affected by floods in Nairobi and the entire country.”

During his tour of the Kiamaiko area, the President addressed to the residents and assured them of the assistance of the government.

According to him, each impacted household would receive Sh10,000 from the government to assist them in finding alternate housing for a period of three months as the government looks for a long-term solution.

Nairobi’s flooding severely damaged Mathare, among other areas.

According to Ruto, his administration will take care of after everybody impacted until they are able to look after themselves.

There had been 228 fatalities as of Sunday due to the flooding circumstances.
