The well-known Nollywood comedic actor John Okafor, also referred to as Mr. Ibu, passed away.

Ibu reportedly passed away on Saturday while undergoing treatment at a Lagos hospital.

On Saturday night, Actors Guild of Nigeria President Emeka Rollas Ejezie announced on Instagram that Mr. Ibu had suffered a cardiac arrest.

“Mr. Ibu suffered cardiac arrest according to his manager of 25 years Don Single Nwuzor. I announce with deep sense of grief that Mr. Ibu didn’t make it. May his soul rest in peace,” Ejezie wrote.

Ibu’s family revealed in November 2023 that the actor had his leg amputated due to medical complications.

In a social media statement, the family reported that Mr. Ibu had several procedures before to the amputation in order to preserve his life.

“This development has been hard on us all but we’ve had to accept it as Daddy’s new reality,” it stated.

The family also asked for support from Nigerians and supporters, mentioning the fragile nature of their father’s illness.

The comedic actor has acted in numerous Nollywood productions, such as Mr. Ibu in London, Aki and Pawpaw, Keziah, and 9 Wives.
