The financial startup Finserve’s mobile virtual network operator (MVNO), Equitel, has introduced its fifth-generation (5G) service.

An MVNO is a corporation that uses the network of a licensed mobile operator to offer mobile services under its own brand name even if it does not possess a license to use mobile spectrum.

In partnership with host mobile network provider Airtel, Equity Group’s mobile virtual network operator introduced 5G services, guaranteeing consumers quicker and more dependable connectivity for uploading, downloading, and streaming.

“The 5G service is set to bring faster and more reliable connectivity that empowers businesses, communities, and individuals, enabling them to actively engage in the digital economy,” the MVNO said.

Building on the success of its prior 4G service, Equitel’s 5G roll-out is an Africa-first for an MVNO.

In August 2021, the mobile virtual network provider debuted its 4G service.

Local rivals of Equitel include Sema Mobile and Zioncell.
