Two Killed in Separate Violent Incidents, Police Warn Against Mob Justice

Cattle Herder Kills Employer’s Son in Narok as Mob Lynching Claims Another Life in Nyamira

Police are investigating two separate fatal incidents reported in Narok South Sub-County and Nyamira County, as authorities raise alarm over rising violence linked to disputes and mob justice.

Employer’s Son Killed in Narok South Dispute

In the Oleshapan area of Narok South Sub-County, a cattle herder fatally injured his employer’s son following a dispute.

Police said the suspect attacked the victim using a club and a panga after the two reportedly quarreled. The victim sustained fatal injuries and died at the scene.

The assailant was later arrested and detained, and is expected to be arraigned in court, police confirmed.

Investigations into the circumstances surrounding the dispute are ongoing.

Suspected Burglar Lynched in Nyamira

In a separate incident, a man was lynched by a mob in Nyaramba village, Nyamira County, after being accused of burglary.

According to police and local residents, the deceased was stoned to death by members of the public. His body was later set on fire in a brutal act of mob justice.

Police officers who arrived at the scene moved the body to a mortuary, where it is being held pending a postmortem examination and further investigations.

Police Condemn Mob Lynching

Police strongly condemned mob justice, urging members of the public to hand over suspects to authorities instead of taking the law into their own hands.

“Suspects should be surrendered to the police for lawful processing and action,” police said.

Authorities noted with concern that cases of mob lynching are on the rise, despite repeated public awareness campaigns discouraging the practice.

Public Distrust in Police Blamed

Security analysts and pundits argue that the growing trend of mob justice points to waning public confidence in law enforcement, particularly in rural areas.

Police acknowledged the challenge, noting that several programmes have been rolled out to improve community policing and trust-building, though with limited success so far.

Authorities said they are currently investigating dozens of mob justice incidents reported across the country and vowed to take firm action against those involved.
