Irate residents of Nanderema village in Navakholo, Kakamega County, lynched a man suspected of murdering a five-year-old girl, whose body was discovered inside a pit latrine within his compound.
The suspect, identified as 45-year-old Yusuf Busolo, allegedly lured the victim, Emmaculate Nafula, with sugarcane before she was last seen alive. Witnesses claim the suspect was spotted calling the child before she disappeared.
After a frantic overnight search, the girl’s parents were devastated to find her body dumped in the suspect’s pit latrine.
According to Florence Nafula, the victim’s mother, Busolo—who was their neighbour—vanished shortly after the incident.
“Other children saw him talking to my daughter before she went missing. He later fled the village,” Florence recounted in tears.
Enraged villagers later cornered and attacked the suspect, killing him on the spot before police could arrive.
Security officers have since launched investigations into the gruesome murder and subsequent mob lynching, as calls for justice for young Emmaculate grow louder.
Authorities are urging residents to allow the police and the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) to handle the case lawfully to prevent further loss of life.
