Police in Manga Subcounty, Nyamira County, are investigating a heartbreaking case in which a young mother is suspected to have poisoned her two children before taking her own life.
The woman, identified as Eunice Moturi, 25, was found dead alongside her nine‑year‑old daughter and six‑year‑old son near a riverside in Isincha Village, Kiogutwa Sub‑location. Their bodies were discovered in a thicket close to her home on Wednesday, leaving the community in shock.
According to police reports, Moturi had prepared her children for school and was escorting them when she diverted into the thicket. It is alleged that she administered a poisonous chemical to the children before ingesting it herself. The children were still dressed in their school uniforms as their bodies lay close together.
Authorities say the motive behind the incident remains unclear and have urged the public to avoid speculation while investigations continue. The bodies were moved to the mortuary for autopsy and other procedures.
This tragedy adds to a worrying trend in Kenya, where at least five people have recently died by suicide in separate incidents, raising concern among authorities and communities alike.
