Traders at Amoyo Centre in West Kanyadoto, Ndhiwa Constituency, Homa Bay County, are up in arms over a four-month power blackout that has paralyzed business operations in the area.
The business owners are demanding compensation from Kenya Power for losses running into millions of shillings, saying the prolonged outage has severely affected their livelihoods.
Led by Benard Odingo, the traders staged a street protest accusing the power company of neglecting their plight. Odingo, who depends on refrigeration for his business, said he has been unable to operate since the blackout began.
Another trader, Maurice Ogalo, lamented that his welding business has completely collapsed due to the lack of electricity.
Salons and barber shops in the area have also shut down, leaving many residents without essential services.
The traders are now appealing to Energy Cabinet Secretary Opiyo Wandayi to intervene and ensure power is restored to Amoyo Centre without further delay.
