Report: KCB Group To Sell Its Subsidiary National Bank Of Kenya.

National Bank of Kenya (NBK), a subsidiary of Kenyan lender KCB Group (KCB.NR), is expected to be sold, according to a report published in the Daily Nation on Wednesday, citing anonymous sources.

The Daily Nation stated that the potential deal’s valuation was undisclosed and that the bank will probably be sold to an unnamed Nigerian lender.

In 2019, the state took control of NBK, a medium-sized institution, and KCB, the country’s second-biggest lender, purchased it as part of a rescue agreement arranged by the central bank.

When Reuters asked KCB for confirmation of the news of a possible sale, they did not respond. The central bank did not respond right away either.

An investor briefing by KCB is planned around 1300 GMT.

Kisii Governor Simba Arati Picks New Deputy Governor

Elijah Obebo has been selected by Kisii Governor Simba Arati to fill the role of Deputy Governor in the wake of Robert Monda’s resignation.

Speaker of the Kisii County Assembly Philip Nyanumba said on Wednesday that Arati selected Obebo to be his deputy, subject to Assembly confirmation.

Obebo has been the County’s chair of the public service board.

A week after the Senate impeached Monda due to egregious misconduct and corruption, the appointment was made. This came about following the Kisii County Assembly’s approval of his dismissal.

The former Nyaribari Chache MP was found guilty by the Senate of all charges brought against him.

Since then, Monda has filed a motion in court to revoke the impeachment, arguing that Arati’s team engaged in a witch hunt.

Despite having the backing of Kisii County Senator Richard Onyonka and National Assembly Chief Whip and South Mugirango MP Silvanus Osoro, Monda was still defeated.

PS Kipsang: Ksh.3.4B Set Aside For Grade 9 Classrooms

As the ministry prepares for the building of 16,000 classrooms by the end of 2024, Education Principal Secretary (PS) Belio Kipsang announced that Ksh. 3.4 billion will be set aside for the construction of Grade 9 classrooms.

PS Kipsang stated in a statement on Wednesday that the government has allocated adequate funds to build classrooms for students in Grade 9, and that the funds will enable the building of a suitable number of classrooms.

“MPs have been asked to set aside an equivalent amount so that we shall have Ksh.6.8 billion which should be able to do more than 6,000 classrooms,”  Kipsang said

The National Government Constituency Development Fund (NG-CDF) will work with the National Government to actualize the funds.

He added that Ksh.9 billion will subsequently be made available by the government to support the building of an additional 9,000 classrooms.

In order to execute the Competency-Based Curriculum (CBC) educational system, which was introduced in 2017, more classroom space will be created in schools.

In 2027, the final cohort of students will take the Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) exams, marking the complete transition from the 8-4-4 educational system to the CBC system.

In order to cover early childhood education, middle school, junior secondary, upper secondary, and university, CBC adopted a 2-6-3-3-3 structure.

Students in grades 7 through 9 are categorized as Junior Secondary School (JSS) students.

Trans Mara: Key Suspect In Brutal Murder Of 2 Prison Officers Arrested

In the Maasai Mara National Park, where he had supposedly been living in the bush with animals, a retired prison guard from Transmara, Narok County, was apprehended for allegedly plotting the murders of his two colleagues.

Pius Lemiso Ndiwa, also known as Shonimeu, eluded the police dragnet for days before being uncovered at 11 p.m. on Tuesday by detectives from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI).

Ndiwa was brought to Kilgoris for questioning.

Two prison guards were slain in Olemismis village last week after receiving a request to resolve a Sacco-related issue with Ndiwa.

The murdered pair, named as Senior Sergent Daniel Nairimo and Inspector Patrick Mukunyi Kuya, departed Nairobi on Wednesday in an attempt to resolve a dispute with Ndiwa, who had defaulted on a loan and moved out of the city to live in the upcountry.

When they arrived at Ndiwa’s homestead in Mentinkuar, the suspect’s family screamed at them. Ndiwa supposedly informed his family that the two people in their home were thugs.

With arrows and machetes in hand, Ndiwa’s two sons ambushed the two prison wardens, who were dressed in civilian clothes.

However, Ndiwa’s wife insists her husband was not present at the scene.

A 45-year-old man was detained by Homa Bay police on Tuesday after he allegedly defiled his 14-year-old daughter in Andingo village.

Before being charged, the suspect is being held at the Ndhiwa police station until the police and children services department get a medical report.

Chief Samson Owili of the area claims that the culprit has been defiling the fifth-grader in his bed at night.

According to Owili, the man and his wife had split up, and he defiled the daughter when the wife was away.

The administrator clarified that the girl had been fleeing from the house to protect herself from the father’s defilement. When she arrived at school on Monday, the teachers questioned her about why she never shows up. She informed them of what had been going on at home.

The pupil has been brought to the hospital, where he will undergo testing prior to the suspect being charged.

Tuesday morning, at Chaka on the Nyeri-Nanyuki highway, a runaway lorry ran over one of the Kenya National Highways Authority’s (KeNHA) officers, killing it and injuring another.

Traffic commandant Mary Omari claims that after traffic and KeNHA officers flagged down the truck and placed a makeshift weighbridge at the scene, the driver refused to stop, which resulted in the accident.

It is reported that the motorist ran over the two officers as he sped passed the scene.

A manhunt has been initiated, according to Commandant Omari, in an effort to track down and capture the offender.

At a nearby hospital, the injured cop is receiving medical attention for his injuries.

Furthermore, Omari has cautioned drivers to drive with extreme caution and issued a warning against irresponsible driving.

The Affordable Housing Bill signed into law by President Ruto.

The contentious Affordable Housing Bill has been signed into law by President William Ruto.

At State House in Nairobi on Tuesday, the Head of State signed the bill, allowing the unwelcome housing levy deductions to be reinstated.

The law was enacted last week by the National Assembly and the Senate with a number of changes, one of which included the inclusion of county administrations.

A 1.5% monthly cut from salaries will be made by both employers and employees, further piercing the pockets of citizens.

The Court of Appeal maintained the ruling that the charge was imposed without a legal basis after the High Court of 2023 ruled that it was unlawful.

Nonetheless, Ruto’s administration has insisted that the suspension gave space for the bill to be restructured and that the new legislative framework for the levy is what results from it.

Four components of affordable housing are established by the bill.

These consist of the following: General Affordable Housing for those making between Ksh. 20,000 and Ksh. 149,000; Middle Class for those making above Ksh. 49,000; Social Housing Unit for those making less than Ksh. 20,000; and Rural Housing for those residing outside of cities.

The Ministry of Housing, the National Housing Corporation (NHC), county governments, and private organizations that have been authorized by the Affordable Housing Board, the fund’s administration body, are a few of the organizations that will be tasked with carrying out the housing project.

The bill also specified that slum regions would be given precedence for building affordable houses and that no more than one housing unit would be allotted.

Local producers will supply the construction materials, while local communities will supply the labor.
