A 70-year-old man is being held by the police on suspicion of killing his 32-year-old son in Kirinyaga during a land dispute.
Francis Njagi, the suspect, was taken into custody in connection with the incident that took place in Gwama village within Karumandi Ward, according to Gichugu police chief Johnson Wachira.
It is reported that the suspect, who is being detained at the Kianyaga police station, got into a fight with his son James Mwobe about a plot of land.
The suspect’s wife, Irene Njagi, stated that their son intended to plant macadamia trees on the land.
After the fight became more heated, the suspect stabbed his son, who was later declared dead at the Kianyaga Sub County Hospital.
“After the mother of the deceased called in a distress, a neighbor rushed him to the hospital,” the police reported.
The deceased body was taken to the Kerugoya Mortuary. The suspect will be arraigned following the conclusion of the ongoing investigations.
Adan Haji Sheikh, the former Mandera South MP, has been summoned by the Mombasa Anti-Corruption Court to appear before it on February 13th in order to respond to allegations of corruption.
The former MP is charged with failing to disclose his affiliation with Lofta Resort Limited, a hotel that was prequalified and granted contracts to provide accommodation and conference services to Kwale County Government on various dates between May 10th, 2013 and May 2017, according to investigations carried out by the Ethics and Anti-corruption Commission (EACC).
After additional investigations, it was discovered that Haji, his wife Fatuma Ibrahim Roba, and his son Alibashir Adankhalif were listed as directors of Lofta Resort Limited. During the time under investigation, Lofta Resort Limited got Ksh. 51, 456,006 shillings from the Kwale County Government.
Section 42 and 48 of the Anti-corruption and Economic Crimes Act, 2003 were found to have been violated by Haji for neglecting to declare a conflict of interest during the tendering procedure.
The former lawmaker has reportedly been avoiding arrest since December 2023, according to the anti-graft agency, after the director of public prosecutions approved the EACC’s recommendations to bring charges against Adan Haji before the Mombasa Anti-Corruption Court.
After he vanished, the EACC filed the charge sheet with the Mombasa court, and they have now obtained a summons requiring the former lawmaker to appear therein on February 13, 2024.

A 47-year-old man from Mung’ang’a, Miambani in Kitui County passed away on Sunday while undergoing treatment for injuries from a machete that he apparently received during a land fight.
The man was being treated at the Kitui Level 4 Hospital after having been taken there by his family, according to Muthoka Kilonzo, the area chief.
“He cried for help but by the time his family arrived at the house, he had been attacked and the perpetrators fled. We suspected the attack is linked to a land tussle but we are investigating and urge members of the community to help us with any information they might have,” the chief said.
As an investigation into the circumstances behind the incident began, three individuals were taken into custody.
Nestled in the center of Kenya, Isiolo County has long struggled with ongoing water scarcity, which has posed major challenges to agricultural output.
The county’s proposed Sh30.9 billion dam project may provide a long-term fix for the area’s water issues.
The proposed dam’s site was inspected last week by Irrigation PS Ephantus Kimotho and Governor Abdi Hassan Guyo of Isiolo.
Guyo predicted that the Crocodile Jaw dam will significantly increase the county’s level of food security.
According to the county executive, when the dam is full, it is expected to retain 315 million cubic meters of water.
“The dam is a game changer in supporting food security with continuous cropping and livestock value chains in the wake of climate change… The project will also improve climate resilience and improve the livelihoods of the people of Isiolo county,” Guyo said.
The governor stated that the main goal of the Crocodile Jaw dam was to solve Isiolo’s urgent problems with insufficient irrigation and water scarcity.
He emphasized the many advantages the project seeks to bring to Isiolo, including the provision of fresh water, irrigation support, and energy.
An earlier attempt by the National Water Conservation to build a massive dam close to the Ewaso Ng’iro River was unsuccessful.
The Crocodile Jaw dam will add 58,473 cubic meters of additional water to the daily supply for industrial and residential purposes. For irrigation, an additional 46,656 cubic meters will be utilized.
The project will be carried out by the National Water Harvesting and Storage Authority.
According to Guyo, one important benefit of the dam project is that it will give Isiolo and the surrounding area a gravity-fed water supply.
In order to address concerns about public participation and other issues, Governor Guyo also visited with contractors at the site.
He gave them his word that the residents’ best interests were taken into consideration when designing the project.
The Crocodile Jaw dam has the potential to drastically alter Isiolo’s agricultural environment.
The Crocodile Jaw dam is part of Kenya Kwanza’s ambition to construct 100 mega and 1,000 small dams around the country.
Guyo stated in December 2023 that the procedure to prepare 290 acres for irrigation was nearing completion. Guyo reported allocating 290 acres for the irrigation projects of Malkadaka, Bulesa, and Ngaremara.
193 irrigation projects that received Sh5.5 billion have been put on hold nationwide, according to the National Treasury.

“We will know exactly what the policewoman was suffering from once the postmortem is conducted. I cannot disclose more details at the moment,” Kiche stated over the phone on Sunday morning.

The police have confirmed that every passenger was successfully evacuated prior to the bus catching fire, even though the cause of the incident is still being investigated.

At least 2,500 passengers boarded a luxury cruise ship, which the Kenya Ports Authority (KPA) announced arrived in Mombasa on Saturday.
KPA reported that the ship, identified MSC Poesia, registered to the Mediterranean Shipping Company in a statement that was posted on the X platform.
The cruise ship that anchored at the Port of Mombasa carried 1,000 staff members, 20 of whom are from Kenya, in addition to the 2,500 passengers.
MSC Poesia, which has a total length of 294 meters, is among the largest cruise ships to have anchored at the port. Norwegian Dawn, another luxurious liner, was the guest of the port just a month ago, according to KPA.
“With a length overall of 294 metres, MSC Poesia is one of the biggest cruise vessels to have docked at the Port, coming barely a month since the port hosted another luxury liner, Norwegian Dawn. To be able to add value and support Cruise Tourism, KPA has invested in the requisite infrastructure, including the state-of-the-art cruise terminal to cement Kenya’s status as a hub not only in cargo operations but also cruise tourism in Africa,” KPA said.
Mombasaa Governor Abdulswamad Shariff Nassir and Tourism Cabinet Secretary Alfred Mutua were present to welcome tourists who came to the coastal town.

It will now be required of parents of students enrolled in public schools to pay their children’s fees via the government’s online portal, eCitizen.
The heads of all national schools were instructed to provide the State Department’s Director General’s office with information about their school bank accounts by Tuesday, February 6, 2024, in a memo dated January 31, 2024, and signed by Basic Education Principal Secretary Belio Kipsang.
According to the PS, this is a component of the government’s initiative to improve service delivery by integrating all government services onto the e-Citizen platform.
“The directorate of e-Citizen in partnership with the Information Communication Technology Authority (ICTA), Ministry of Information, Communication and the Digital Economy and the National Treasury have been coordinating the onboarding of all government services onto the eCitizen platform to enhance service delivery. As part of compliance with the requirements it is directed that parents/guardians make fee payments for their learners in your institutions through this platform,” the circular read in part.
The platform will be used to pay school fees as part of a strategy to make it the most recent addition to the more than 5,000 government services available on the eCitizen portal, which President William Ruto redesigned and introduced in June 2023.
The Ministry of Education has also instructed school administrators to stop imposing additional fees to parents beyond what is permitted in order to close all loopholes.
PS Kipsang stated in a February 2 circular that since the ministry covers elementary and junior secondary school tuition requirements through capitation, there should be no additional expenses.
He gave the order to take action against head teachers, the board of management, and school principals who impose unlawful fees.
As the school lunch program is optional, the PS went on to say that no child should be denied an education for not being able to afford it.
