Nairobi-Garissa Road has been closed by the Kenya National Highways Authority due to floods in the Mororo area, which is located between Madogo and Tana River Bridge.

KeNHA said in a statement on Monday night that the flooding is the result of the continuous rains, which have raised the Tana River’s water levels.

Barely three days have lapsed since the authorities warned drivers on the Nairobi-Garissa Road to drive carefully as they approach the Mororo district.

KeNHA stated that its staff are prepared to handle the washout as soon as the rains subside after the road was closed on Monday.

KeNHA also issued a warning, noting that people downstream may be at risk as a result of the Seven Folks Dams rapidly filling to almost capacity due to the rising water levels.

Right now, the majority of the country is seeing increased rainfall that has a strong potential to trigger flash floods.

To prevent disaster and loss of life, authorities including the Meteorological Department and the Red Cross have encouraged residents in flood-prone areas to relocate to higher, safer grounds.

In several places, the roads are impassable due to the flooding.

The humanitarian organization cautioned against crossing floodwaters by car or foot.

It warned that doing this increases the chance of falling victim to rapidly moving water.

According to the weatherman, most of the country should continue to see heavy rains.
