Zacchaeus Ngeno, the commander of Tharaka Nithi county police, has confirmed an accident in which several people are believed to be dead and numerous more injured.

On Sunday at noon, the bus from Meru to Nairobi was involved in an accident at the Tharaka Nithi bridge.

Ngeno stated that investigations into the deadly collision are underway, and the cause of the incident is still unknown.

“We are still conducting a probe to establish the number of fatalities but we are certain that we had some fatalities,” Ngeno stated.

Some of the passengers who were injured were transferred to neighboring hospitals for treatment.

In order to prevent accidents, the chief of county police advised motorists to use greater caution and make sure their vehicles are in good condition.

However, a witness claimed to have observed at least three dead people. There are worries that the figures might rise.

Medics were observed at the scene, and rescue operations were still in progress at the time of publication.
