A recent Tiktok trend called “Mzabibu” is rapidly taking over the internet as Kenyans show off their most bizarre choreography to the upbeat drum beat of the tune.
The Mijikenda artist Zablon K. Ndale’s song “Mzabibu,” which debuted a few days prior to the weekend, is the inspiration for the trend.
The craziest motions are displayed by the dancers when the chorus begins. Wearing strange clothing, they make sure to jerk and bend over while executing exaggerated hip and arm movements as the beat continues.
Hundreds of users rapidly took over the challenge, which was started by a female Tiktok user going by the handle @aggie.kamau, who can be seen dancing inside a kiosk. One user who really helped popularize the unconventional dance routines was @official_mickey_.
Wearing green slacks and an olive shirt, Mickey shuffles around in a humorous manner as the song picks up speed. He makes a lot of gestures and kicks around his feet.
Thousands of Kenyans have so far shared their own takes on the viral challenge; some participate in it while shirtless, while others do it inside of schools.
The trick is to act as though you are in the early 1970s. And from there, everything gets crazier.
Well-known for her amiability, First Daughter Charlene Ruto took up the challenge and, predictably, did not let it down.
The chorus of the song is: “Mimi ni mzabibuu, baba ni mkurimaa, nanwi mmatai shalaani matunda kisha gakule…”
“I am the vine, and the father is the farmer, and you are the branches,” reads the rich Mijikenda lyrics when translated. Thus, produce fruit.”
In the four days since it was released, the song has amassed an astounding 19k views on YouTube.
You should be at your silliest to completely ace the task. Choose the stupidest attire, make the silliest expression, move your body in the most hilarious way, and, if at all possible, find it in yourself to go the additional mile in seeming utterly foolish.
