Elgeyo Marakwet: Athlete collapses and dies at hotel

A young athlete from Elgeyo Marakwet County passed away after collapsing at a hotel in the Kaptagat area.

According to County Police Commander Peter Mulinge, 28-year-old Willy Chelewa passed away during a meal at the hotel where he was living during his training.

The athlete raced in the recent Nairobi City Marathon half marathon and has obtained a Chinese sponsor for international races.

At position 67, he finished the marathon in 65 minutes and 30 seconds.

Before collapsing and passing away, the athlete had eaten rice and black tea.

Police have taken samples of the meals he had before collapsing and are presently at the hotel looking into the event.

Mulinge claims that after the hotel administration reported the issue, the police were on the scene immediately.

The athlete has been exercising with colleagues in the area, which has numerous training camps, using the hotel room as his base.

Dozens of Muslim worshippers travelling for celebration killed in a crash

A collision in the northern Nigerian state of Kaduna has claimed the lives of several Muslim worshippers.

The victims were traveling to the northern town of Saminaka to commemorate Eid-el-Maulud, which is the birthday of Prophet Muhammad.

A representative of the Eid celebration reported that their bus struck an approaching truck close to the town of Lere.

Passy Ma Trevor to be detained for 30 days

In anticipation of additional investigations, police said on Monday that they would hold Pascaline Peter, the woman they detained last week for allegedly scamming Kenyans out of Ksh. 350 million in a real estate investment scam, for a another 30 days.

Ms. Peter, also known by the identity Passy Ma Trevor, was taken into custody on Thursday in Kantafu, Machakos County. She faces charges of operating a multi-million-shilling shylock and engaging in real estate fraud.

The 36-year-old is being held by the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) in Nairobi’s Kasarani Sub-County headquarters after a 30-day custody order was given by the Makadara Law Courts.

“The artifice affecting over 300 Kenyans who lost millions of shillings has seen the detectives record statements from over sixty victims with the number expected to quadruple over the course of time,” DCI said in an X post.

“The detectives will be seeking to among others gather more evidence on the fraud to ensure that a watertight case is presented before court to ensure justice is served to all.”

According to the police, the self-proclaimed businesswoman ran an illicit money-lending organization and managed and rented out people’s funds.

According to reports, Ms. Peter operated an investment scam in which she solicited funds from clients and assured them of a thirty percent return on their investments; however, “she switched off her mobile phone and went into hiding once payments were made.”

The majority of her victims, according to the police, are from the counties of Nairobi, Kajiado, Machakos, and Kiambu.

Bomet: Shock as man caught in indecent act with cow

Nearly 300 prisoners escape prison after floods

According to prison officials on Sunday, 281 inmates were able to escape from a jail in Maiduguri, northeastern Nigeria, early last week when walls were destroyed by devastating floodwaters.

Nairobi Hospital doctors to down tools on Monday midnight

The Nairobi Hospital Admitting Staff Association has declared that in response to their demand that the board of directors resign, they will cease operations on Monday, 16, 2024.

11 students injured in Dagoretti High School fight

Following a brawl between two student groups at Dagoretti High School in Nairobi, more police officers were sent to the school on Monday.

When students got into a fight over a basketball game they were playing, according to the police, at least 11 of them were injured.

Kisii: Two highschool students arrested in connection with posho mill theft

Two high school students are being detained by police in Keumbu, Kisii County, after it was alleged that they had a stolen posho mill funnel in their possession.

It is said that the enormous machinery was removed from their school’s posho mill. Dennis Bikeri, the area chief for Keumbu, verified the occurrence.

The two students, one in Form 4 and the other in Form 2, are allegedly suspected by the authorities of taking the aforementioned equipment from their school.
