Police in Nairobi County are investigating a tragic accident in which a man was hit and killed by a moving train along the Syokimau–Mlolongo meter-gauge railway line on Saturday evening, October 25, 2025.

According to preliminary police reports, the unidentified man was attempting to cross the railway tracks when he was struck by a train traveling from the Nairobi Central Station toward Syokimau. Witnesses say the train sounded its horn repeatedly, but the man appeared unaware or was too close to avoid the impact.

Residents in the area reported hearing a loud thud and the sound of screeching brakes moments before discovering the body. The impact was so severe that the man’s body was dismembered, with parts scattered along the track.

“It appears he was crossing the line at a point not designated for pedestrians. The injuries were extensive, suggesting the train was moving at considerable speed,” said an officer from the Syokimau Railway Police Unit.

Police and Kenya Railways emergency response teams arrived at the scene shortly after being alerted by train operators. The body was collected and moved to the City Mortuary for identification and post-mortem examination.

Authorities have since launched investigations to establish the victim’s identity and the exact sequence of events leading to the fatal accident.

Rising Railway Fatalities in Nairobi

This incident adds to the growing list of railway-related deaths reported along the busy Nairobi–Syokimau corridor, where several pedestrians have lost their lives while attempting to cross railway lines.

Police and Kenya Railways officials have repeatedly warned residents against using unauthorized crossing points, especially in areas such as Syokimau, Mlolongo, and Embakasi, where the railway runs close to residential estates and footpaths.

“We continue to urge the public to exercise utmost caution near railway lines. Trains cannot stop suddenly, and by the time a person realizes danger, it is often too late,” warned a Kenya Railways safety officer.

Authorities are also considering increasing public safety campaigns and installing warning signage and barriers in high-risk areas to prevent further tragedies.

Man Dies After Falling from Fourth Floor Apartment in Mombasa

Authorities in Mombasa County are investigating a tragic incident in which a 45-year-old man, identified as Koriata Laytata, died after reportedly falling from the fourth floor of a residential building in the Nyali area on the night of Saturday, October 25, 2025.

According to a police report filed at the Nyali Police Station, the incident occurred at Gishanga Estate along Beach Road, a quiet residential neighborhood popular with middle-income families and short-term renters.

Laytata is said to have spent the evening at a local restaurant before heading back to his residence. Upon arrival, he realized he had forgotten his house key at the restaurant. Police say he immediately called the restaurant manager, who dispatched a motorcycle rider to deliver the forgotten key.

While waiting on his balcony, Laytata is believed to have accidentally slipped and plunged to the ground floor, sustaining fatal injuries. The incident occurred just minutes before the rider arrived with the key.

“When the rider arrived, he found the man lying in a pool of blood. It appears he fell from the fourth floor balcony,” a police officer familiar with the case said.

Police and emergency responders arrived shortly after being alerted by neighbors who heard a loud thud followed by commotion within the estate. Unfortunately, Laytata was pronounced dead at the scene.

The body was moved to the Coast General Teaching and Referral Hospital mortuary for post-mortem examination as investigations continue. Detectives are treating the incident as a tragic accident, ruling out foul play at this stage.

Family members and friends have been left in deep shock, describing Laytata as a “calm, cheerful man” who was well known in the community.

“We are still in disbelief. He was in good spirits earlier that evening. It’s painful that such a small mistake ended his life,” said a close family friend who requested anonymity.

The Mombasa County Police Commander has urged residents living in multi-storey buildings to take extra caution while using balconies, especially at night or after consuming alcohol.

“We have witnessed several accidental falls in recent months. It’s important that tenants ensure their balconies are well lit and guarded, and that they avoid leaning over railings,” the police boss said.

This tragic case adds to a growing list of accidental deaths reported in coastal towns, with authorities emphasizing the need for public awareness and safety measures in high-rise residential buildings.

Detectives Probe Murders in Kakamega, Nairobi, and Coast as Crime Cases Surge

Detectives in Kenya are investigating a series of deaths reported across the country, including the brutal killing of a five-year-old girl in Navakholo, Kakamega County, and separate incidents in Nairobi, Mombasa, Naivasha, and Diani.

Child Murder in Kakamega

Police in Kakamega have launched investigations after the body of a five-year-old girl was found dumped in a pit latrine at Nderema village, Navakholo Sub-County.

The deceased, a PP2 pupil at Nderema Comprehensive School, had been playing with other children in the compound before she disappeared.

According to police and residents, the child was allegedly killed and dumped in the latrine. Officers retrieved the body and transferred it to the mortuary for postmortem examination.

Shortly after, angry residents cornered a 45-year-old man suspected to be behind the murder and lynched him before police could intervene. The mob reportedly stoned and set him ablaze, leaving both bodies at the scene.

Police say investigations are ongoing to establish the motive behind the murder.

Woman Found Dead in Nairobi

In a separate incident, police in Nairobi are investigating the death of a 46-year-old woman, identified as Martha Wahumu Njoki, who was found dead inside her house in the Jamhuri area of Kilimani.

Her roommate reported the matter to the police after discovering the lifeless body. The cause of death remains unknown pending an autopsy at the city mortuary.

Foreign Nationals Found Dead in Coastal and Rift Valley Regions

Meanwhile, authorities are also probing three deaths involving foreign nationals.

In Shanzu, Mombasa County, 89-year-old British woman Shield Kathleen was found dead in her apartment. Police say preliminary reports indicate she had been unwell. She had arrived in Kenya on April 24, 2025, and was set to depart on November 22, 2025.

In Naivasha, Nakuru County, French tourist Dominique Marie Josephe, 20, was discovered dead in her hotel room on October 24, 2025. She had recently visited the Maasai Mara and was scheduled to travel to Amboseli National Park before being found unresponsive.

In Diani, Kwale County, a 60-year-old German national, Frank Kibling, was found dead on his sofa in his rented house. His caretaker discovered the body after noticing the door was partially closed.

Police have moved all the bodies to respective mortuaries as investigations and autopsies continue to determine the causes of death.

Police Appeal for Calm as Investigations Continue

The Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) has urged the public to remain calm and allow police to conclude their investigations. Authorities also warned against mob justice, saying it undermines the rule of law and risks destroying crucial evidence.

Irate residents of Nanderema village in Navakholo, Kakamega County, lynched a man suspected of murdering a five-year-old girl, whose body was discovered inside a pit latrine within his compound.

The suspect, identified as 45-year-old Yusuf Busolo, allegedly lured the victim, Emmaculate Nafula, with sugarcane before she was last seen alive. Witnesses claim the suspect was spotted calling the child before she disappeared.

After a frantic overnight search, the girl’s parents were devastated to find her body dumped in the suspect’s pit latrine.

According to Florence Nafula, the victim’s mother, Busolo—who was their neighbour—vanished shortly after the incident.

“Other children saw him talking to my daughter before she went missing. He later fled the village,” Florence recounted in tears.

Enraged villagers later cornered and attacked the suspect, killing him on the spot before police could arrive.

Security officers have since launched investigations into the gruesome murder and subsequent mob lynching, as calls for justice for young Emmaculate grow louder.

Authorities are urging residents to allow the police and the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) to handle the case lawfully to prevent further loss of life.

Rozina Mwakideu Hits Back at Robert Burale in 36-Page Court Affidavit

Gospel singer Rozina Mwakideu has hit back at her ex-husband, Pastor Robert Burale, dismissing his Ksh.20 million defamation suit as a “retaliatory attempt to silence” her truth about their short-lived marriage.

In a detailed 36-page replying affidavit filed before the Milimani Chief Magistrates’ Court, Rozina — who has been sued alongside her brother and radio host Alex Mwakideu — maintains that everything she said in the viral October 4, 2025 interview on Alex Mwakideu TV was factual and based on her personal experiences.

Burale, a pastor and motivational speaker, had sought damages and a court order to take down the interview titled “My Biggest Mistake Was Marrying Robert Burale”, claiming it defamed him. The court, however, declined to have the video pulled down but barred Rozina and Alex from sharing or republishing it.

Rozina insists her remarks were a constitutional right of reply, arguing that Burale had previously spoken about her in an earlier interview on the same channel.

“My biggest mistake in life was marrying Robert Burale na si kwa ubaya,” she stated, describing that period as “the darkest time of my life.”

The gospel artist accuses her ex-husband of dishonesty, emotional neglect, and financial misconduct during their one-year marriage, which ended thirteen years ago. She says she left the union over “irreconcilable differences, lack of intimacy, financial issues, and repeated acts of dishonesty.”

Rozina’s affidavit includes email exchanges from 2013 and 2018, where she allegedly confronted Burale about “money issues” and “false public narratives” about their marriage.

In one 2018 email, she wrote:

“I kindly ask you. Let it go. It’s enough now. Really. Tafadhali… I may have to respond one of these days. And you know me. I will tell the truth. ONLY THE TRUTH. It won’t be naked. Just TRUTH.”

Rozina also claims that following her interview, several women reached out to her with similar allegations against Burale, with some expressing willingness to testify in court.

“These women have come forward expressing their willingness to testify regarding their personal experiences,” she says.

She insists that her interview tone was “calm and reflective”, not defamatory, and that any reasonable viewer would interpret it as her personal reflection rather than a character attack.

Rozina further labels Burale’s lawsuit as a Strategic Lawsuit Against Public Participation (SLAPP) — a tactic meant to intimidate her and silence survivors of emotional or psychological abuse.

“I beseech the court to dismiss Burale’s application,” she pleads, adding, “I have moderated my response even in this affidavit.”

The case is scheduled for mention on February 25, 2026.

More Victims Emerge as Details Surface on UoN Student’s Murder Over Ksh 1,500 Ransom

Kidnapped man in dark room. Hostage, slavery concept. 4k resolution video footage.

Moments after Citizen TV aired a story on Nicholas Mutua Mutia, the main suspect linked to the disappearance and brutal murder of University of Nairobi student Jane Atila, more victims have come forward with shocking revelations implicating the same man.

On Tuesday, two women recorded statements at the Kikuyu Police Station, alleging that Mutua abducted them inside KEFRI Forest in Kikuyu, Kiambu County. They claim he robbed, tortured, and sexually assaulted them, leaving some for dead.

“Aliniambia ‘hutaenda, ntakuua… nimeua wangapi? Nimekunywa damu ya wangapi? Ata wewe ujue siku yako ni leo.’ Na kitu alikuwa anataka ni pesa,” recounted one of the victims, who spoke to Citizen TV on condition of anonymity.

The victim added that Mutua demanded her M-Pesa PIN after realizing she didn’t have cash, saying, “Hiyo siku hata ni Mungu alinisaidia.”

Police have since added the women’s testimonies to their evidence file and are urging other possible victims to come forward.

Meanwhile, fresh details have emerged about a phone conversation between Mutua and Jane’s family on the night she disappeared. In the audio recording, the suspect allegedly demanded Ksh 2,500 ransom, threatening harm if it wasn’t paid.

Jane’s brother, Patrick Mwangale, said he managed to send Ksh 1,000, but Mutua insisted on the remaining Ksh 1,500, after which Jane was killed.

“Alisema kwamba yeye ndiye ako na dada yangu, na hatamwachilia mpaka atakapo pata pesa kutoka kwangu. Nilijaribu kuripoti mara mbili Kabete Police Station, lakini nilirudishwa kwa gate mara zote mbili wakidismiss story yangu,” Mwangale told reporters.

Jane’s mutilated body was found on October 17 inside KEFRI forest, already decomposing. Fingerprint analysis later confirmed her identity, leaving her family devastated.

The second-year UoN student, based at the Kikuyu Campus, had been missing since October 3, 2025.

Human rights activists have condemned police for negligence and delayed response, which they say could have prevented her death. Police have since arrested two additional suspects linked to the murder as investigations continue.

Oburu Oginga: Babu Owino will get ODM ticket if he wins nominations

Acting Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) leader Dr. Oburu Oginga has moved to dispel growing tensions within the party, assuring Embakasi East MP Babu Owino that he will not be sidelined in the race for the Nairobi gubernatorial ticket.

Speaking during an interview on Ramogi TV on Tuesday night, Oburu dismissed fears that Babu could be denied the party ticket even if he wins the nominations.

“I do not know why he believes he cannot be given the ODM ticket to vie for Nairobi Governor. I do not think there can be any reason to deny him the ticket if he wins the nominations. If he wins, he will get it, so let him not run away from the party,” Oburu said.

He urged all aspirants seeking the Nairobi gubernatorial ticket to prepare for a transparent contest, emphasizing that ODM’s nomination process will be open and fair.

“Anyone who wants the party ticket in the Nairobi Governor race should just declare and square it out openly among each other. Let nobody run away because they think they will be denied a chance. Nobody can take the ticket away from you if you win it and you’re a member of the party,” he added.

Oburu also revealed that he has been trying to reach out to Babu Owino personally to reassure him of the party’s commitment to fairness.

“I have not found him yet but I’m looking for him. I have sent people to look for him. I know I will find him soon so that we can have a conversation and I can tell him to keep calm and not worry,” he said.

Turning to ODM Secretary General Edwin Sifuna, who has faced criticism for allegedly sending mixed signals—speaking both as a party official and in his personal capacity—Oburu dismissed the claims, saying there is no internal rift.

“Sifuna is the one who read out the resolutions of the party after our meeting. I have spoken to him, and he has no problem,” Oburu stated.

“As a young person, sometimes he can become restless and go a little overboard, but he is with us and he will stay with us. There’s nothing he has done to warrant us removing him from the party. If he goes astray, as our child, we may just discipline him a little but within the party.”

On the question of who should succeed former Prime Minister Raila Odinga as the next Luo political kingpin, Oburu maintained that such leadership cannot be appointed or predetermined.

“There’s no forum where a Luo kingpin is elected. A kingpin will sprout out of nowhere like a mushroom; someone will just emerge and take Raila’s space—but not from his agemates like myself,” he said.

He added that emerging young leaders will naturally take up the mantle when the time comes, emphasizing that leadership must be earned through public acceptance.

“There are young leaders cropping up and one of them will step up and take that place. But if we handpick somebody and the people do not accept him, then they will still not be kingpin,” he concluded.

Meta Teams Up with Safaricom to Launch Second Undersea Internet Cable To Kenya

Meta has announced a strategic partnership with Safaricom to bring its second high-speed submarine cable to Kenya, further strengthening the country’s position as a key digital hub in Africa.

Through its subsidiary, Edge Network Services Limited, Meta has selected Safaricom as the landing partner for the new undersea cable connecting Oman and Kenya, a move set to boost internet capacity, reliability, and speed across the region.

Safaricom CEO Dr. Peter Ndegwa hailed the partnership as a major milestone in the company’s transformation journey:

“This deal is a significant strategic milestone for us at Safaricom as we mark 25 years and signals our readiness to transition into a fully-fledged tech company in line with our Vision 2030 strategy,” said Dr. Ndegwa.

He added that the collaboration will help meet the rising demand for high-capacity, low-latency connectivity, which is vital for powering economic growth, cloud adoption, and digital innovation in Kenya and beyond.

The new undersea cable project underscores Safaricom’s commitment to delivering faster, more resilient, and future-proof connectivity as part of its goal to become Africa’s leading purpose-driven technology company by 2030.

Meta’s Edge Network Services will fully fund the construction of the Under-Sea Cable System, while locally licensed operators in both Kenya and Oman will manage operations within their territorial waters, including all related in-country infrastructure.

This partnership is expected to enhance Kenya’s digital infrastructure, drive investment in emerging technologies, and support the country’s growing digital economy.

Blood Shortages and Delayed Care Fuel Kenya’s Growing Maternal Health Crisis

Every year, more than 5,000 pregnant women in Kenya lose their lives during childbirth — most due to preventable causes such as excessive bleeding, delays in hospital transfers, and lack of timely access to emergency care.

According to the Ministry of Health, postpartum haemorrhage (PPH), blood shortages, and complications such as preeclampsia — a condition that causes dangerous fluctuations in blood pressure — remain the leading killers of expectant mothers.

Despite ongoing government efforts to improve maternal health services, these challenges continue to endanger thousands of lives each year.

Delayed Transfers: The Hidden Killer

At Kenyatta National Hospital (KNH), one of Kenya’s largest referral hospitals, nurses and midwives are on the front lines of the crisis.

Maternal care nurse Rosa Chemway, known for handling high-risk deliveries, says delays in transferring patients from smaller hospitals to referral centers account for over 86% of maternal deaths in the country.

“Even though Kenyatta Hospital is well-equipped to handle high-risk pregnancies, many patients arrive too late. Some are already dead by the time they are brought in,” says Chemway.

Experts note that these delays are often caused by poor road networks, lack of ambulances, and communication breakdowns between facilities — factors that can turn a manageable complication into a fatal one.

Blood Shortages Threaten Maternal Care

At Pumwani Maternity Hospital, one of the busiest maternity centers in Nairobi, blood shortages are among the biggest challenges doctors face when treating mothers experiencing severe bleeding.

Women suffering from postpartum haemorrhage require immediate blood transfusions, but limited supply often makes this life-saving procedure impossible.

Kelvin, a volunteer blood donor, recalls how donating blood saved his wife’s life during childbirth.

“Without donated blood, my wife would not have made it,” he says.

However, the demand for blood far exceeds supply.

Low Donation Rates and Public Awareness Gaps

Denis Oduor, the blood coordinator for Nairobi County, highlights that low awareness and cultural misconceptions have contributed to the chronic shortage.

“There is a widespread lack of awareness about the importance of blood donation, and many people are unwilling to donate unless there is a financial incentive,” Oduor explains.

He urges Kenyans to embrace voluntary blood donation as a civic duty that saves mothers, children, and accident victims every day.

A Call to Action

Health experts warn that unless Kenya addresses the systemic issues — blood shortages, poor referral systems, and limited emergency capacity — the country will struggle to reduce maternal deaths.

Increasing public awareness about the importance of blood donation, investing in maternal infrastructure, and training more healthcare workers could save thousands of lives annually.

As Chemway puts it:

“When a mother dies, a family and a community lose its heart. No woman should die giving life.”

GSU officer electrocuted to death Kimbo GSU camp

A General Service Unit (GSU) Recce officer has died after being electrocuted while washing his bicycle at the GSU camp in Kimbo, Juja Sub-County, Kiambu County.

The deceased, identified as Police Constable Benedict Juma Oduori, reportedly met his death on Saturday, October 25, 2025, while using an electric car wash machine to clean his personal bicycle at the camp’s washing area.

According to a police report filed by Chief Inspector Meshack Ikuthu, who is attached to the same camp, the officer was found lying unconscious by the sentry on duty, still holding the machine.

Oduori was immediately rushed to the camp dispensary and later referred to Kenyatta University Referral Hospital, where he was pronounced dead while receiving treatment.

A postmortem examination was conducted at the hospital to establish the exact cause of death.

Police have launched an investigation into the incident to determine whether faulty electrical equipment or other factors contributed to the tragedy.
