Machakos: Bar Brawl Escalates as Police Officer Fires 30 Shots

A night of revelry at the Imperial Lounge in Yatta, Machakos County was abruptly interrupted in the early hours of Friday when a police officer discharged his weapon following a dispute over a woman.

Police Constable Fredrick Kipchoge, stationed at Matuu Police Station, created significant unrest around 2:40 am, leading a staff member at the establishment to alert the authorities.

As detailed in a police report reviewed by Citizen Digital, officers arrived at the scene only to discover that Kipchoge had already left the lounge upon noticing their approach.

He returned to the police station at 5:25 am, where he seized an AK-47 rifle, equipped with 30 rounds of ammunition, from the reports office. This firearm was intended for another officer assigned to patrol duties.

With the assault rifle in hand, Kipchoge proceeded back to the lounge, trailed by the Officer Commanding Station (OCS) and additional police personnel.

Upon their arrival, officers questioned his motives. Kipchoge asserted that he intended to apprehend a man he accused of taking his girlfriend.

In an effort to disarm him, officers approached from behind, which led to a tumultuous situation where Kipchoge discharged all 30 rounds from the rifle. Fortunately, there were no reported injuries during the incident, and the police were able to successfully disarm and apprehend him.

He was subsequently returned to Matuu Police Station, where he was placed in custody.

The Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) Yatta is currently undertaking further inquiries into the matter.

Baringo: Girl dies after a hit and run incident

A young girl in Baringo Central tragically lost her life after being struck by an unidentified vehicle near the Seretunin junction along the Kabarnet-Kabartonjo Road.

According to Seretunin Chief Patrick Kiprop, the vehicle was moving from Kabarnet towards Kabartonjo at the time of the incident.

Police: We are NOT involved in the abductions, stop spreading malicious information

Inspector General of Police Douglas Kanja

Inspector General of Police Douglas Kanja has refuted claims regarding police involvement in abductions.

In his statement, Kanja emphasized that no police station in the nation is currently detaining the individuals reported as abducted.

“To clarify, the Constitutional mandate of the National Police Service is to arrest criminal offenders, not to engage in abductions,” Kanja stated.

The police chief further urged anyone with information about missing persons to report to the nearest police station.

“The protocol outlined in the Service Standing Orders mandates that all arrests be documented in the Occurrence Book for subsequent court proceedings; otherwise, suspects must be released from police custody if they do not meet the required procedural standards.”

He also encouraged citizens to exercise their freedom of expression judiciously, noting that the allegations are intended to damage the reputation of the National Police Service.

“We therefore urge the public to avoid disseminating false, fabricated, malicious, and unverified information that seeks to undermine the reputation and integrity of the National Police Service,” he added.

Kanja mentioned that the issue is currently under investigation by the Independent Policing Oversight Authority (IPOA) and other independent entities.

This statement follows a series of abductions in the country, with four families in distress over the disappearance of their relatives, who are reported to have been abducted.

At least three pedestrians lost their lives when a speeding vehicle crashed into a crowded pedestrian walkway along the Mariakani-Kaloleni road in Kilifi County.

According to police reports, the incident occurred on Christmas Day around 5 a.m. Three additional pedestrians sustained serious injuries in the collision, which took place near the Dam Hotel. The deceased individuals include one woman and two men.

Annually, over 4,000 Kenyans lose their lives in traffic accidents, resulting in thousands more suffering serious injuries, which have detrimental effects on families.

This tragic event follows another accident on the Narok-Mai Mahiu road, which resulted in at least seven fatalities and over 30 injuries.

In that incident, a lorry experienced a tire burst, causing the driver to lose control while descending a hill. The vehicle collided with a salon car, a bus, and a small matatu, resulting in the immediate deaths of three passengers.

While responders were present at the scene, a second trailer approached at high speed in the direction of Mai Mahiu and collided with a four-wheel drive vehicle, claiming three more lives instantly. Additionally, the trailer struck a motorcyclist with two passengers, resulting in one fatality.

Police are conducting an investigation into this incident as many individuals travel to various destinations for the festive season, coinciding with police operations.

Deputy Inspector General of Kenya Police Eliud Lagat visited the Nairobi-Nakuru highway on Tuesday to assess traffic conditions.

The road has been experiencing heavy traffic over the past four days due to the influx of travelers for the holiday season, which has been attributed to issues such as overlapping and poor visibility.
