Nairobi: Man Arrested While Carrying Wife’s Body Parts

A man was arrested on Tuesday morning in Huruma, Nairobi, in connection with a human thorax believed to belong to his 19-year-old wife, whose dismembered body has been reported missing for several days, according to local residents. However, it appears that the disappearance had not been officially reported to the authorities.

Following the arrest and subsequent questioning, detectives from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) stated that the suspect guided them to his residence, where a search revealed the head, with its eyes removed, along with other dismembered body parts.

According to police reports, the left hand, waist, hip area, and one upper thigh of the deceased were still unaccounted for.

Officers on patrol encountered the suspect around 5 a.m. while he was carrying a suspicious bag. Upon stopping him for a random search, they discovered the thorax of a female, concealed within a cement bag.

During interrogation, the suspect identified himself and asserted that the remains belonged to his 19-year-old wife. He subsequently led the officers to his home, where additional body parts, including the head, were located beneath the bed.

In the single-room dwelling, authorities also recovered a sharp knife submerged in a basin of water, along with clothing soaked in blood, believed to belong to the victim. Furthermore, the floor of the residence exhibited blood stains, indicating that the crime had occurred on the premises.

Detectives from the Starehe DCI have initiated an investigation to locate the remaining missing body parts and to confirm the identity of the dismembered remains. The motive behind the murder has yet to be determined, although police are exploring the possibility of occult practices being involved, which have been identified as a significant factor in various murder cases. The Nairobi regional head of DCI has stated that they are diligently investigating the incident to uncover further details and ensure justice is served.

A 32-year-old man was fatally stabbed while accompanying his son to school in an incident that occurred in the Mathare slums of Nairobi.

Witnesses reported hearing a disturbance and screams on Monday morning. Upon rushing to the location to investigate, they discovered the body of Michael Oworo lying in a pool of blood.

His son was found a short distance away, crying and uncertain of how to respond to the tragic loss of his father.

According to police and local residents, the victim was on his way to drop his son off at a nearby daycare center before heading to his job as a mason at a construction site.

The motive behind the attack remains unclear; however, locals suggested that it may have been an attempted robbery.

It is believed that the victim attempted to defend himself, resulting in the fatal stabbing.

Authorities reported that the body bore a stab wound to the chest, likely caused by a sharp instrument, as confirmed by witnesses.

At the scene, an open lunch box containing food for the child was found scattered on the dusty ground, indicating it was meant for the boy’s meal that day.

Police stated that the assailant is known, and efforts to apprehend him are currently underway.

Neighbors who arrived at the scene described finding the three-year-old child in tears after witnessing the violent act.

Emergency responders were called, and an ambulance arrived shortly thereafter, but the medical personnel pronounced the victim dead at the scene.

Residents noted that the deceased was a single father who had been living alone with his son since the child was three months old.

The community expressed outrage over the incident, voicing concerns about the increasing insecurity in the Mathare 4A area.

They mentioned that the victim worked as a casual laborer on construction sites and regularly took his son to daycare to facilitate his ability to earn a living.

On Monday morning, irate residents obstructed the police from retrieving the body as a demonstration against the prevailing insecurity. After a lengthy negotiation and confrontation with the upset residents, the officers successfully transported the body to the Nairobi Funeral Home. Benson Kasyoki, the head of DCI in Nairobi, indicated that a team of detectives is actively investigating the situation.

Laikipia: Fire breaks out in Nyahururu destroying properties

A property of indeterminate value was completely consumed by flames following a devastating fire that ravaged rental homes in Manguu, located on the outskirts of Nyahururu town in Laikipia County.

According to reports, the fire originated from one of the wooden structures and rapidly spread to adjacent residences on Monday evening.

It is believed that the blaze may have been ignited by a candle in one of the homes, leading to its uncontrollable spread.

Attempts to extinguish the fire were unsuccessful, as the Nyahururu fire engine was reported to be out of water, prompting frustrated residents to drive away the firefighters.

Community members collaborated in a desperate effort to salvage their belongings, yet the fire intensified, leaving them powerless as they witnessed their homes turn to ash.

Susan Wangui, one of the affected individuals, recounted hearing cries of anguish. Joseph Ndung’u, another victim, described how he arrived to find his house engulfed in flames, unable to assist as he could not reach his residence in time to save his possessions.

Harun Kimathi, who was returning home from work in Nyahururu, spotted a large fire from afar, only to realize upon closer inspection that their rental property was ablaze.

Residents reported their inability to rescue their belongings, with some falling victim to theft by opportunistic individuals exploiting the chaotic situation.

Laikipia Senator John Kinyua, who arrived at the scene shortly after the fire erupted, expressed his shock at the devastation, attributing it to the sluggish response of the fire department.

He criticized the Nyahururu firefighters for their lack of preparedness, noting that the fire engine was devoid of water to combat the inferno.

He voiced his disappointment, highlighting that a river was located just a short distance from the site, yet the firefighters lacked the necessary equipment to access water from it.

Residents are now calling on the Laikipia County Government to procure an additional fire truck and ensure its deployment to the area for prompt and effective responses to future emergencies.

Tragic Loss: Grade 7 Leaner Alleged Suicide Sparks Investigations

Investigations are currently underway following the tragic suicide of a 14-year-old leaner from Rudacho village in Budalang’i Constituency, Busia County.

Bunyala OCPD Isaiah Mose confirmed the incident, noting that the deceased, a seventh-grade pupil at Nandekere Primary School, had a dispute with his father after arriving home late from the market.

Following a reprimand, the student faced threats of punishment, which ultimately led to his decision to take his own life.

Mose expressed his deep concern regarding the rising number of suicide cases in Budalang’i and urged community members to seek more constructive resolutions to their conflicts instead of resorting to such drastic measures.

This incident marks the third suicide case reported in Budalang’i since the start of the year. The body has been transported to Port Victoria mortuary, where it will await a postmortem examination.

Fatal Frenzy: Butchery Attendant Kills Colleague in Argument Over Lost Meat

A butchery attendant was fatally injured on Monday evening following a confrontation with a colleague at Ranen market in Migori County.

Area chief Phares Osore reported that 35-year-old Geoffrey Ouma was stabbed to death by a suspect named Ochieng Odhiambo.

According to Osore, the altercation arose as both individuals accused each other of informing their employer about missing meat at the butchery and slaughterhouse where they were employed.

The area chief noted that the owner of the butchery and slaughterhouse had considered terminating their employment due to ongoing issues with meat loss.

Osore suggested that this potential action by the employer may have contributed to the blame-shifting and subsequent conflict between the two men.

Following the incident, the suspect turned himself in at the Ranen police post, while the deceased’s body has been transported to Rapcom hospital mortuary for an autopsy and further investigation.

In light of these events, the area chief urged local youths to refrain from engaging in unnecessary violence and to pursue alternative methods for resolving disputes.

Kirinyaga: Worshippers left in shock after thieves ransack ACK Kithara-ini Church

Worshippers at ACK Kithara-ini Church in Gichugu, Kirinyaga County, were left astounded upon discovering a burglary that occurred at their place of worship. Intruders broke into the church during the night, absconding with property valued at over Ksh 300,000.

Reverend Susan Murimi, the vicar overseeing the Katharaini-Ichang’i Parish, reported that the stolen items included three microphones, two speakers, and amplifier systems, all of which had been acquired just the previous year.

“I am increasingly concerned about what will transpire during next Sunday’s service,” Reverend Susan remarked.

“The absence of the public address system has become almost a syndrome—when it is missing, attendees stand, refrain from singing, and do not engage in prayer. The church service becomes exceedingly dull.”

Elizabeth Gatembu, a church worker, was the first to notice the break-in.

She arrived early to clean and prepare the church for workers involved in ongoing construction. Upon discovering the church door ajar, she promptly informed the church secretary, who subsequently alerted Reverend Susan.

“I had come to clean and open the church when I found the door open,” Gatembu recounted.

“I quickly notified the secretary, who then contacted the Reverend, and she arrived immediately.”

Church treasurer Mwangi Wambiri reported the incident to Gathoge Police Station, and detectives from Kianyaga Police Station responded swiftly to the scene. Wambiri expressed increasing concerns regarding the rising instances of insecurity in the area. “We suspect that the thieves are from this locality,” he stated.

“They have been stealing livestock, and now they have begun to target churches.”

Reverend Susan echoed these concerns, highlighting that the community is now apprehensive that churches have become prime targets for criminal activity.

“It is deeply troubling that individuals in this area are not only targeting the community but are also vandalizing church property,” she lamented. “They broke the door, stole items, and even took the padlock. This is a destructive act.”

Local police in Gichugu Sub-County confirmed that investigations into the theft are ongoing.

Authorities are urging the community to remain vigilant as they continue to probe the rise in criminal activities targeting places of worship.

Makueni: Trade ECM Suspended Over Claim That Menstruating Women Attract Crocodiles

The Makueni County Government has placed a 45-day suspension on its Executive Committee Member (ECM) for Trade, Marketing, Industry, Culture, and Tourism, Dr. Sonia Nzilani, following her contentious remarks implying that menstruating women attract crocodiles.

This action was taken by Makueni Governor, Mutula Kilonzo Jr., in light of the significant public backlash that arose from the ECM’s statements.

The controversy surfaced during the funeral of a 17-year-old girl who tragically lost her life in a crocodile attack while collecting water from the Athi River in Kithaayoni, Kathonzweni subcounty.

At the burial ceremony on Friday, Dr. Nzilani suggested that the crocodile’s attack was linked to the girl’s menstruation, asserting that the scent of menstruating women is appealing to crocodiles.

Her comments quickly provoked outrage from local residents, advocacy organizations, and experts, who criticized the remarks as both disrespectful and lacking scientific basis.

Many individuals deemed the statements insensitive and harmful, particularly in the context of the need to promote accurate information regarding menstrual health and wildlife safety.

In light of the public reaction, the Office of Deputy Governor Lucy Mulili released a press statement on Monday, clarifying that the county government does not endorse Dr. Nzilani’s views.

The statement conveyed regret to the citizens of Makueni and the broader Kenyan public, emphasizing that Dr. Nzilani’s opinions were her own and did not reflect the official position of the county administration.

The Deputy Governor further highlighted Makueni’s ongoing initiatives to challenge myths related to menstrual health, reaffirming the county’s dedication to gender equality, women’s empowerment, and inclusivity.

Makueni has made notable progress in advancing education for girls and women, with programs designed to eliminate harmful stereotypes and enhance access to essential resources.

The Deputy Governor reiterated the county’s commitment to essential infrastructure initiatives, including the Athi-Tunguni-Kilima, Athi-Kalawa, and Athi-Mavindini Water Projects, which are designed to enhance water accessibility and mitigate conflicts between local communities and wildlife along the River Athi.

Dr. Nzilani’s remarks faced significant criticism from wildlife specialists and healthcare professionals.

Dr. Paul Mutua, an immunologist, categorically dismissed the assertion that menstruating women are at a higher risk of crocodile attacks.

Dr. Mutua emphasized that there is no scientific or medical basis for the belief that menstrual blood attracts crocodiles.

He explained that crocodile attacks on humans are mainly influenced by the animal’s predatory nature, territorial instincts, and the closeness of human activities to aquatic environments.

Crocodile attacks pose a concern in areas where human and wildlife interactions are frequent, particularly in regions like Makueni, where communities depend on rivers and water sources for their daily requirements.

Although crocodile attacks on humans are relatively uncommon, they do occur, prompting experts to advocate for public education on safety protocols when engaging with water bodies.

In response to the mounting criticism, Dr. Nzilani subsequently issued a public apology, clarifying that her statements may have been misinterpreted and that she did not aim to incite fear or disseminate false information.

Mwaura: Despite Emails To Cancel Trip, Dutch King Set To Visit Kenya

Government Spokesperson Isaac Mwaura has affirmed that the upcoming State visit by His Majesty King Willem-Alexander and Her Majesty Queen Máxima of the Netherlands is proceeding as planned.

This announcement follows a wave of approximately 300 emails sent by Kenyans to the Dutch government, requesting the cancellation of the three-day visit due to the current situation in the country.

The Royal House of the Netherlands has indicated that the visit is being conducted at the invitation of President William Ruto and signifies a pivotal moment in the bilateral relations between the two nations.

In a press conference on Monday, Spokesperson Mwaura criticized Kenyans for utilizing social media to disseminate misinformation, cautioning those who seek to prevent foreign dignitaries from visiting the nation to refrain from such actions.

“The King of the Netherlands will indeed visit our country, and we have taken all necessary measures to ensure a successful visit. We must not undermine our national interests,” he stated.

The Dutch Ministry of Foreign Affairs has also reiterated that the visit will proceed, as it will provide a platform to address the alleged violations attributed to Ruto’s administration.

Samburu: Body parts of missing 9-year-old boy found in a thicket

The dismembered remains of a nine-year-old boy, who had been missing for three days, were discovered following a deadly leopard attack in a village located in Maralal, Samburu County.

According to police and officials from the Kenya Wildlife Service, the child disappeared on January 13 while he was on his way to collect water from a nearby stream in Angata Nanyukie village.

His family had instructed him to go to the Leseneto River for water, but he did not return home, prompting a search effort by KWS personnel and local community members.

The search concluded on January 16 when the child’s remains were located in a nearby forest.

It is suspected that the boy succumbed to injuries inflicted by a leopard, which had been reported in the vicinity. Authorities indicated that the remains included bones, while other body parts had been consumed by the animal. The remains were subsequently transported to the local mortuary for autopsy and further examination.

In response to the incident, local residents have expressed their intention to track down and eliminate the wild animals that pose a threat to their safety, despite calls from officials for restraint. Such occurrences are frequently reported in regions adjacent to wildlife parks.

This incident highlights the ongoing issue of human-wildlife conflict, exacerbated by competition for resources.

In April of the previous year, President William Ruto initiated a compensation program for victims of wildlife attacks, aimed at assisting them in recovering their livelihoods and addressing substantial medical expenses.

The program, launched in Laikipia—home to notable species such as elephants, rhinoceroses, and buffaloes—aims to promote peaceful coexistence between local communities and wildlife, as stated by Ruto.

He announced that the compensation amount for fatal wildlife attacks would be increased from Sh200,000 to Sh5 million.
