Ruto starts Homa Bay tour ahead of Madaraka Day

President William Ruto is set to commence his visit to Homa Bay County on Thursday, where he will launch and evaluate several development initiatives in preparation for Madaraka Day. The national festivities are scheduled to take place on Sunday at the Raila Odinga Stadium.

The president will initiate his Homa Bay Tour in Ndhiwa Constituency, where he will inaugurate the construction of the Gor Mahia Ring Road in Magina and officially open the Ndhiwa Technical Training Institute (TTI) located in Kanyamwa Kologi ward.

On Friday, the Head of State will conclude the Blue Economy conference at Tom Mboya University before assessing and commissioning projects across various areas of the county.

Ndhiwa MP Martin Owino has encouraged residents to come out in significant numbers to greet the Head of State during his development tour in the region.

Conversely, a group of clergy members in Homa Bay have also expressed their support for the president’s visit.

Bishop Adede Ongola of Agano Ark Covenant Church commended President Ruto for implementing various projects in the county aimed at enhancing the living standards of the residents.

Messi and Suarez both net two goals as Miami dominates Montreal

Lionel Messi and Luis Suarez each netted two goals, leading Inter Miami to a 4-2 victory in Major League Soccer against the visiting Montreal on Wednesday.
The Argentine superstar Messi initiated the scoring in the 27th minute and provided an assist for Suarez’s first goal in the 68th minute, establishing a 2-0 lead.

Uruguayan star Suarez added another goal in the 71st minute, but Montreal’s Dante Sealy responded in the 74th minute.

Messi scored once more in the 87th minute, while Victor Loturi managed to score for the Canadian club two minutes into stoppage time.

Miami ascended to sixth place in the Eastern Conference with seven wins and five draws from 15 matches, whereas the struggling Montreal team fell to a record of 1-10 with five draws.

Miami had experienced two losses and two draws in their last four matches.

“We had to take responsibility for the poor results. It’s a matter of correcting to regain confidence,” stated Suarez, who emphasized that the victory “means a lot … We must continue to build confidence in this type of game.”

Inter coach Javier Mascherano expressed concern regarding injuries to defenders Gonzalo Lujan, Tomas Aviles, and Jordi Alba.

“We needed to break the negative trend. I am pleased,” he remarked.

“Regrettably, (the victory) is overshadowed by the injuries to Gonzalo, Jordi, and Toto.

“In the cases of Gonzalo and Jordi, it was a muscular issue, and we will assess the extent of it tomorrow. As for ‘Toto’, he suffered an ankle injury from a stomp. He might have been able to continue; he wanted to keep playing.”

In other league action, overall leader Philadelphia triumphed 2-1 at Toronto, rallying late after Norway’s Ola Brynhildsen scored in the 75th minute.

Nathan Harriel equalized for the Union in the 86th minute, and Germany’s Kai Wagner netted the game-winning goal two minutes into stoppage time.

The Union improved their record to 10-3-3, accumulating a league-high 33 points, while none of the three teams directly behind them on the table managed to secure full points; second-place Cincinnati drew 3-3 with visiting Dallas, and third-place Nashville ended in a 2-2 draw at fourth-place Columbus.

Vivo V50 Lite 5G: In-Depth Look

💎 1. Design & Build Quality

Alright, first impressions—this thing looks fancier than it actually is. They’re hyping up the Titanium Gold finish and all (yeah, there’s Phantom Black, Fantasy Purple, Silk Green too if you wanna get wild). Truth? The “metallic” frame and back are just plastic. Not exactly luxury, but at least it won’t snap your wrist at 196g.

It’s got that “oops-proof” IP65 water/dust resistance, so a splash or two won’t freak it out. They even toss in a case with those puffy airbag corners, which is a nice “please don’t drop me” touch. And somehow, at 7.79mm thin, it still hides a monster battery inside. Kinda impressive, honestly.

📱 2. Display & Multimedia

Big ol’ 6.77-inch AMOLED, FHD+ and all that jazz. Super punchy colors, 120Hz refresh—pretty slick for scrolling and doomscrolling. It gets stupidly bright (seriously, 1,800 nits? It’s practically a flashlight). Bezels are slim, except for the chin, ’cause of course.

Bonus points for Widevine L1 so you can Netflix in 4K, and there’s some eye-comfort thing if you’re the sensitive type. The speakers? Loud as hell, but crank it and you’ll get distortion. Bass is… well, it’s hiding. Somewhere.

⚙️ 3. Performance & Software

Now here’s where things get a little “meh.” It’s running on the MediaTek Dimensity 6300—a budget chip pretending to be fancy. You get 8GB or 12GB RAM, plus 256GB or 512GB storage, but no microSD slot (of course). Benchmarks? Not exactly jaw-dropping:

  • AnTuTu: 438k-ish
  • Geekbench 6: 741 SC, 1949 MC

Casual games are fine, think Mobile Legends or Subway Surfers. Try anything beefier like Genshin Impact, and get ready for frame drops and sadness.

Funtouch OS 15 (Android 15) is crazy customizable—icons, animations, you name it—but comes with more bloatware than a 2010s Windows laptop. Prepare for random V-Appstore notifications. The good news? vivo promises 3 OS updates, 4 years of security patches. Fingers crossed.

AI stuff? It’s here. Circle to Search, Live Text, AI Erase 2.0, some photo enhancer that loves to over-brighten everything. Fun, but not exactly groundbreaking.

🔋 4. Battery & Charging

Here’s the flex: 6,500mAh battery. Absolute beast. I got 20 to 24 hours out of it, and that’s with actual use, not just airplane mode. You’ll forget where your charger is. YouTube marathon? 27 hours, easy. Two days for normal folks.

Charging’s nuts too: 90W FlashCharge. Goes from 15% to full in under an hour—about 27 minutes for halfway there. Small catch: need vivo’s own charger, and USB-PD support is capped at a sad 10W. Reverse charging at 6W for your earbuds or whatever. They say battery health stays above 80% after 5 years, but, you know, marketing.

📸 5. Camera System

  • Back: 50MP main (Sony IMX882), 8MP ultrawide (120°)
  • Front: 32MP selfie

Daylight pics are alright—details are there, but colors can get a little, uh, “Instagram filter” even when you don’t want them to. 2x portraits are usable but shaky—no OIS, so don’t sneeze.

Low light? Ehh, not great. Night mode helps, but expect some grain and fuzz. The ultrawide pretty much gives up indoors. Video’s stuck at 1080p/60fps—no 4K, and stabilization is a joke. “Ultra-steady” mode just crops your footage to oblivion.

⚖️ 6. Pricing & Competition

  • Europe: €400
  • Malaysia: RM1,199–RM1,699
  • Philippines: PHP 16,999–19,999

And the competition? It’s fierce. The CMF Phone 2 Pro matches the price but packs a beefier chip (Dimensity 7300), triple 50MP cams, same 120Hz AMOLED. Or the HONOR 400 Lite—108MP camera, Dimensity 7025 Ultra, and, yeah, 120Hz screen.

👍👎 7. Pros & Cons

ProsCons
2-day battery life 🏆Underpowered for the price 💸
90W fast charging ⚡Cameras meh in low light 📷
Sleek, tough design 🌧️No microSD/3.5mm jack ❌
Gorgeous AMOLED 120Hz 🖼️Annoying bloatware 📢
IP65 & drop resistance 🤲Plastic feels cheap ✋

🎯 8. Verdict

So, here’s the bottom line: the V50 Lite is a battery champ with an excellent display and can take a few knocks. But if you want speed, killer cameras, or hate pre-installed junk, there are better options for your money. It’s not a disaster, but it’s not top dog either.

  • Buy if you want a phone that won’t die on you, charges faster than you can find your socks, and looks good from a distance.
  • Skip if you’re after gaming muscle, top-tier cameras, or you have zero patience for spammy software.

Chelsea set their sights on greater achievements following their Conference League victory.

The UEFA Conference League was not the desired destination for Chelsea; however, their victory in Wroclaw may serve as a pivotal moment for a club that had lost its winning tradition.

The Premier League side triumphed over Real Betis with a score of 4-1 on Wednesday, demonstrating a strong recovery after being outperformed in the first half by their Spanish rivals.

Chelsea’s manager, Enzo Maresca, made impactful substitutions in the second half that energized his team, but it was the inspired performance of Cole Palmer that truly ignited their success, as he delivered two precise crosses for Enzo Fernandez and Nicolas Jackson.

Jadon Sancho’s excellent finish brought the score to 3-1, and Moises Caicedo secured a fourth goal during stoppage time, marking Chelsea’s first trophy since Todd Boehly and Clearlake Capital took ownership of the club in May 2022 from Russian oligarch Roman Abramovich.

Over the past three years, the owners have invested over £1 billion ($1.3 billion) in promising young talent, yet until now, they had little to show for their expenditures.

Chelsea had been the clear favorites to win the third-tier club competition in Europe from the outset, allowing Maresca to utilize youth and fringe players.

They dominated the group stage, outshining teams with significantly fewer resources, such as Noah, Astana, and Shamrock Rovers.

On the eve of the final in Poland, Maresca emphasized the significance of the Conference League to his players.

Next season, he will not need to convince them, as they have returned to the Champions League, where they believe they rightfully belong, following a fourth-place finish in the Premier League.

Mombasa: Suspect linked to Mshomoroni gang attacks arrested

Authorities in Kisauni, Mombasa County have apprehended an individual suspected of involvement in gang-related assaults in Mshomoroni.

Kelvin Munoga, commonly referred to as Makaveli, is thought to be affiliated with a gang that has been instilling fear among the local populace.

While on patrol, police officers received a tip-off regarding a group of young individuals concealed within incomplete structures, intending to partake in unlawful activities.

The officers promptly proceeded to the location, situated roughly one kilometer from the Mjambere police station, where they confronted a group of eight youths equipped with rudimentary weapons such as machetes and iron bars.

Munoga, a habitual offender associated with several robbery cases in the Junda and Kangujo areas, was subsequently taken into custody.

During a search conducted at the site, law enforcement recovered four pangas, one iron bar, and a mobile phone.

Efforts are currently being made to locate additional suspects connected to these criminal acts.

Baringo: Man sentenced to 6 months for slapping another man

A 32-year-old man, charged with assaulting another individual by slapping him in the face, has received a sentence of six months probation from a court in Kabarnet.

Nicholas Kiprotich appeared before Senior Principal Magistrate Caroline Ateya, where he was found guilty of unlawfully assaulting Allan Tomno on April 17, 2022, at approximately 10 pm at the AP Canteen in Kabarnet town.

The court determined that his actions resulted in actual bodily harm, in violation of section 251 of the Penal Code.

The prosecutor informed the court that Tomno was present at the AP Canteen when Kiprotich allegedly slapped him across the face.

“I was at the AP Canteen when someone slapped me on the face, causing me to fall. Upon getting up, I recognized Nicholas as the one who had slapped me. I requested my phone back, but he then struck me with his fist,” the victim recounted.

He further stated that Nicholas pushed him against the wall and pressed his groin before fleeing with Ksh.18,000.

A clinical officer from Baringo County Referral Hospital examined the victim and reported that Tomno had been slapped on both sides of his face and on the right side of his chest.

The officer observed tenderness in both temporal regions and the right anterior chest.

Kiprotich, in his defense, denied any involvement in the assault, asserting that he was not present at the location during the incident.

He also claimed that he was wrongfully charged due to having purchased a motorcycle that the complainant had intended to acquire.

In her ruling, Magistrate Ateya expressed that the court was persuaded by the evidence provided and found the accused guilty of the assault as charged.

Kiprotich requested leniency, arguing that he is the primary provider for his young family and has children attending school. He assured the court that he would refrain from future conflicts.

A pre-sentence report prepared by a probation officer indicated that the accused posed no threat to the community and had no previous convictions.

Siaya: Man surrenders to police after beheading grandmother after witchcraft allegations

Residents of Jera Central village in Ugenya sub-county were left in disbelief after a horrific event in which a man allegedly decapitated his 85-year-old grandmother, accusing her of engaging in witchcraft.

The accused, 45-year-old George Opondo, is said to have used an axe to murder his grandmother, Jenipher Aduol, before confining her body within her home.

As reported by Chief of North Ugenya, John Okelo Mboto, Opondo subsequently turned himself in at the Bar-Ober police post, admitting to the crime and asking the officers to recover the body.

Law enforcement officials, along with personnel from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations, promptly responded to the location.

Upon arrival, they discovered the house door was locked but managed to find the key, allowing them to enter and uncover the victim’s lifeless body on the floor.

The remains were then taken to a private mortuary in Sega town for a postmortem examination.

Items collected from the scene included an axe and a spade, which are believed to have been utilized in the brutal murder, and were subsequently transported to Ukwala police station for further inquiry.

During questioning, the suspect asserted that his grandmother was the cause of the family’s stagnation due to her alleged witchcraft practices.

The suspect is currently in custody at Ukwala police station.

Migori: Probe as man reportedly commits suicide in Uriri

Authorities have initiated an inquiry into the demise of a 26-year-old man who reportedly took his own life within his shop located in West Kanyamkago, Uriri, in Migori County.

Chief Gabriel Oso of West Kanyamkago stated that a neighbor, upon noticing the shop had been closed for two consecutive days, grew concerned about the shop owner, Julius Ndote.

Upon further investigation, the neighbor found Ndote’s body suspended by a rope inside the shop.

The acting chief immediately notified the police, who arrived at the location, retrieved the body, and transported it to the mortuary for an autopsy and additional investigations.

Officials are currently endeavoring to determine the events that led to Ndote’s death.

Ruto expresses his apologies to Tanzania regarding the recent spat.

President William Ruto has taken steps to reassure Tanzania of Kenya’s dedication to upholding robust diplomatic ties, following a recent occurrence where several Kenyan activists were allegedly detained and mistreated in Tanzania.

During the Annual National Prayer Breakfast in Nairobi, President Ruto seemed to offer an olive branch to Tanzania on behalf of the activists.

“To our neighbors from Tanzania, if we have offended you in any manner, we seek your forgiveness. If there has been any misstep on our part, we sincerely apologize,” he remarked, extending this sentiment to Uganda.

“If there is anything that Kenyans have done that is inappropriate, we wish to express our apologies.”

Ruto emphasized that as Kenyans, they aspire to cultivate a relationship that will enhance the greatness of their country.

Speaking on Saturday at an event, Tanzanian President Samia Suluhu Hassan reaffirmed her previous position against what she referred to as “outsiders” attempting to destabilize the nation.

Suluhu declared that she would not permit any form of external interference as she pledged to continue protecting her country’s sovereignty and interests.

In this context, she urged both government officials and citizens to remain vigilant and proactive in safeguarding the nation from adverse external influences.

“The responsibility to protect this country does not rest solely with me, nor is it exclusively that of the defense and security forces; it is a duty that belongs to all of us,” she stated in Swahili.

Her remarks come in the wake of the deportation of PLP leader Martha Karua, former Chief Justice Willy Mutunga, Hanida Adan, and Hussein Khalid.

They had arrived in the country to express solidarity with opposition leader Tundu Lissu, who was scheduled to face treason charges in court.

Additionally, two other activists, Boniface Mwangi and Uganda’s Agather Atuhaire, were apprehended and subsequently deported.

According to Suluhu, their actions constituted external interference in the internal matters of the country.

“We have observed a trend of activists from our region beginning to meddle in our affairs. While they may have been restrained in their own nations, they will not be permitted to disrupt our peace here.”

The President claimed that some of these activists are under scrutiny or facing pressure in their respective countries and are now attempting to redirect their efforts towards Tanzania.

She voiced her apprehension that these individuals, who have previously incited unrest elsewhere, are aiming to instigate similar turmoil in a nation she characterized as “peaceful and united.”

“They have wreaked havoc in their own countries, and now the only nation that remains peaceful and united is ours. We must not permit those who have devastated their nations to come here and create disturbances,” Suluhu cautioned.

She called upon law enforcement agencies to respond promptly and effectively whenever there is an attempt to disrupt public order, emphasizing the importance of vigilance in maintaining national unity.

If there has been any misstep, we apologise. Ruto tells Gen Z

President William Ruto utilized this year’s National Prayer Breakfast as a platform to extend an apology to the nation’s Gen Z, indicating a reconciliatory stance in anticipation of the 2027 elections.

The youth of the country are projected to constitute over half of the electorate in the upcoming 2027 polls, with various political factions already vying for their engagement.

While addressing attendees at the event held at the Safari Park Hotel, the President underscored the significance of unity, asserting, “Where there is unity, God commands a blessing.”

“To our children, if there has been any misstep, we apologise,” the President conveyed to the nation’s young populace, commonly referred to as Gen Z, who have posed challenges to his administration.

This occasion marked the first instance in which the President publicly expressed regret towards the youth, following a year characterized by tensions between his government and both Gen Z and Millennials.

In 2024, Gen Z led substantial protests that culminated in the invasion of Parliament, advocating for significant reforms within the Kenya Kwanza administration.

They also protested against the Finance Bill, 2024, which introduced a series of new taxes, arguing that the additional levies were excessively burdensome.

In reaction, President Ruto subsequently disbanded his Cabinet and established a broad-based government that incorporated opposition leaders to restore stability in the country.

Since that time, his administration has encountered increasing pressure to genuinely involve youth in the decision-making processes.

During the prayer breakfast, the President further encouraged Kenyans to coexist harmoniously despite their political differences, highlighting the necessity of constructing a united and peaceful nation.

Quoting extensively from the Book of Psalms 133, Ruto remarked: “The Word of God tells us how good and how pleasant it is for brethren to live together in unity.”

“It is in God’s perfect will and plan for us to live together in unity — across political divides, across our communities, and across our religious differences,” he continued, urging Kenyans to engage in peaceful coexistence.

The President’s statements are made during a period of increased tensions as politicians begin their campaigns for the early 2027 elections.
