On Sunday, the body of an unidentified man was discovered near the Wanyiba Falls in Kirinyaga County’s Rwamuthambi River.
Around 5:00 p.m., locals who had gone to the river to get water discovered the body. Police from Kiamaciri station were notified and sent to the area right away.
There have been previous reports of incidents at the Wanyiba fall. A Kenya Defence Force (KDF) officer’s body was discovered in the same fall on October 27, 2023.
After identification, the officer was laid to rest at his residence in Kagio.
Chrispina Gathoni, the assistant chief of Muthigi, says that instances of deaths being discovered in rivers and on highways in Kirinyaga are alarming.
On March 14, 2024, the naked body of an unnamed woman was discovered abandoned at Cumbiri, near rice farms along Mutithi-Kandongu-Kagio, and was transferred to Kerugoya mortuary.
Two weeks prior, a second woman’s lifeless body was discovered abandoned near Rukanga along the Makutano-Sagana road. Later on, it was discovered that she was a blogger from Tharaka Nithi County.
After being recovered on Sunday, the body was brought to the mortuary of Kerugoya Referral Hospital to await a postmortem.
