Former President Uhuru Kenyatta hailed young African leaders recognised at the Future Africa Leaders Awards, describing them as a bold new generation driven by service, innovation and purpose.

He praised the award recipients for choosing impact over personal gain, noting that their leadership reflects courage, vision and selflessness.

“Each of these young men and women chose service over self, community over comfort, and vision over fear,” Uhuru said. “Today, we celebrate not only what they have achieved, but who they are becoming.”

Uhuru urged Africa’s youth to use their talents with integrity and transparency, stressing that true leadership must deliver tangible benefits to communities. He added that Africa’s progress depends on leaders guided by vision, honesty and a genuine commitment to serve the people.

He also commended Pastor Chris Oyakhilome for establishing the Future Africa Leaders Foundation, describing it as a transformative platform that nurtures purpose-driven leadership across the continent.

“This initiative does more than celebrate success—it instills purpose,” Uhuru said, noting that it represents a strategic investment in Africa’s greatest asset: its people.

The former president further paid tribute to ex-Nigerian President Olusegun Obasanjo, affectionately referring to him as “Baba,” and applauding his enduring role in mentoring and shaping young African leaders long after leaving office.

Beyond the awards ceremony, Uhuru delivered a New Year goodwill message, wishing Africans and the global community peace, wisdom and prosperity. He called for renewed belief in Africa’s ability to define its own future through unity and service-oriented leadership.

“May Africa rise—built by Africans, strengthened by our unity, and guided by leaders committed to service,” he said.

Founded by Pastor Chris Oyakhilome, the Future Africa Leaders Awards are held annually to recognize, support and empower young Africans making a meaningful impact through education, youth empowerment and mentorship initiatives.
