Barcelona’s young talent Lamine Yamal has signed a new contract with the Catalan giants, extending his stay until 2031, following an impressive season.

The 17-year-old winger has quickly become one of the club’s essential players, contributing to their domestic treble, which includes La Liga, the Copa del Rey, and the Spanish Super Cup.

“Barcelona and Lamine Yamal have finalized an agreement to extend his contract until June 30, 2031,” stated the Catalan club in an official announcement.

“The renewal of Lamine Yamal signifies the strength of Barca’s project. His rise in the global football arena is unparalleled, having begun with his debut on April 29, 2023, at the tender age of 15.”

According to Spanish media, the new contract positions him among the highest-paid players at Barcelona.

After celebrating victory at Euro 2024 with Spain last summer, Yamal netted 18 goals and provided 25 assists in 55 matches throughout a remarkable season.

Playing primarily on the right wing and showcasing exceptional dribbling skills, Yamal’s agility and pace were instrumental in Barcelona scoring 102 league goals this season, as they reclaimed the title from their rivals, Real Madrid.

Having progressed through the renowned La Masia youth academy, Yamal is frequently compared to Barcelona legend Lionel Messi. He made his debut in 2023 under the management of Xavi Hernandez at just 15 years old.

By the conclusion of the 2023-24 season, he had established himself as the team’s primary attacking force, shining in a disappointing campaign where Barcelona finished without any trophies.

Following his remarkable performances at the Euros, Yamal seamlessly adapted to Flick’s attacking philosophy, demonstrating increased consistency and solidifying his status as one of the world’s elite players.

Yamal delivered two outstanding performances in the Champions League semi-finals against Inter Milan, although his team was narrowly defeated 7-6 on aggregate, leaving them to wait to end their European trophy drought.

“I will fulfill my promise and bring the Champions League trophy to Barcelona; we will not rest until we achieve it,” Yamal vowed after the match.

Despite his young age, the winger has already made over 100 appearances for Barcelona.

Yamal, who will celebrate his 18th birthday in July, has joined his teammate Raphinha and coach Flick in signing contract extensions over the past few days.

According to reports from Spanish media, his contract encompasses several bonuses tied to various accomplishments, such as winning the Ballon d’Or, in addition to a considerable salary increase.

Yamal is considered a contender for the award of the world’s best player this year.
