A 15-year-old boy is battling for his life at Litein Mission Hospital after ingesting a raw snake in Chemogoch Village, Bomet County.

This unusual event has created quite a stir in the community, leading his family to quickly transport him to the hospital, where he was placed in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU).

On Saturday evening, the hospital encountered an unexpected case that left the medical team in disbelief. The teenager, who sells traditional beer, was admitted after consuming a raw green snake.

Witnesses reported that some of his customers had caught and killed the snake, which he then took home. His mother was taken aback when she found him with the dead snake tucked in his pocket.

“He said, ‘Mom, wait, let me show you,’ and I screamed. He dashed to the stream, devoured the entire snake, and drank some water,” recalled Emmy Ruto, the boy’s mother.

As the effects of the snake’s venom began to manifest, villagers stepped in and rushed him to a nearby dispensary.

However, as his condition deteriorated, he was transferred to Litein Mission Hospital, where he was admitted to the ICU.

“When I tried to intervene, others told me he had been bitten by the snake. We restrained him and hurried him to the hospital,” shared John Ruto, the boy’s uncle.

After receiving intensive medical care, doctors managed to stabilize his condition.

He has since been moved from the ICU to a general ward, where he is now on the mend.

“This is an incredibly rare case. We’ve never encountered anything like it before, but he is now stable and recovering in the High Dependency Unit (HDU) after being discharged from the ICU,” stated Dr. Valentine Mbithi, a physician at Litein Mission Hospital.

The incident has left the village in disbelief, with residents wondering what could have driven the boy to eat the raw snake.
