Detectives are currently probing a case involving the suicide of a patient in a restroom at the Marani Level Four Hospital located in Kisii County.

Hospital officials reported to law enforcement that the individual, identified as Daniel Orare, aged 47, was discovered deceased in the toilet on the morning of Tuesday, January 21. This discovery occurred several hours after he had taken his own life.

Orare had been hospitalized for over a week due to an undisclosed medical condition. Upon investigation, police determined that he had committed suicide using a bed sheet from the hospital, which was found secured to the shower tap. The underlying reasons for this tragic event remain unclear, according to police statements.

The body has been transferred to a local mortuary, where it will undergo a post-mortem examination as part of the ongoing investigation. This incident is one of three separate suicide cases reported to authorities on the same day across the country.

Law enforcement officials noted that these occurrences are part of a troubling trend that has prompted calls for intervention. In a related case from Morombo village in Sengera, Kisii County, the body of 49-year-old Simeon Nyatuka was discovered hanging from a tree, with a blue mosquito net identified as the means of suicide. Local residents indicated that Nyatuka had been living alone following a long-term separation from his spouse.

His body, which showed no signs of physical trauma, has been sent to the Kisii Referral Hospital mortuary for preservation until an autopsy can be performed.

Additionally, in Mithanga village, Kathiani, Machakos County, a 65-year-old man named Paul Muoki was found dead by suicide. His body was located hanging from the rafters of his three-room house, with a sisal rope around his neck. No suicide note was found at the scene, and his remains have been taken to the morgue at Kathiani Level Four Hospital, pending an autopsy.
