A butchery attendant was fatally injured on Monday evening following a confrontation with a colleague at Ranen market in Migori County.

Area chief Phares Osore reported that 35-year-old Geoffrey Ouma was stabbed to death by a suspect named Ochieng Odhiambo.

According to Osore, the altercation arose as both individuals accused each other of informing their employer about missing meat at the butchery and slaughterhouse where they were employed.

The area chief noted that the owner of the butchery and slaughterhouse had considered terminating their employment due to ongoing issues with meat loss.

Osore suggested that this potential action by the employer may have contributed to the blame-shifting and subsequent conflict between the two men.

Following the incident, the suspect turned himself in at the Ranen police post, while the deceased’s body has been transported to Rapcom hospital mortuary for an autopsy and further investigation.

In light of these events, the area chief urged local youths to refrain from engaging in unnecessary violence and to pursue alternative methods for resolving disputes.
