A 32-year-old woman tragically lost her life following an attack by a crocodile at Kopiata beach in Siaya County on Sunday evening.
The victim, identified as Elizabeth Akinyi Oketch, had gone to the beach along the shores of Lake Victoria to collect water when the incident occurred.
Acting Assistant Chief Esau Oduru reported that the woman was accompanied by her daughter and had filled four out of the six containers they were carrying when the crocodile struck.
Oduru recounted that the crocodile attacked, dragging the woman into the water while her daughter looked on in horror.
Although the daughter was unharmed, she raised the alarm, prompting members of the community to rush to the beach; however, their attempts to save her mother were unsuccessful.
The administrator confirmed that local fishermen, with the assistance of the public, later recovered the body from the lake.
Oduru further noted that the severely mutilated body was subsequently transported to the mortuary at Madiany sub-county hospital for a postmortem examination.
