Three individuals were apprehended following the death of a 26-year-old man who succumbed to stab wounds sustained during a confrontation at their residence in the Ushirika area of Eastleigh, Nairobi.
Among those detained was the deceased’s roommate, identified as Mohamed Jibril.
Authorities reported that the victim arrived at a local hospital with a severe stab wound to the chest over the weekend.
It was indicated that the deceased was involved in a dispute within the apartment for reasons that remain unclear before he was stabbed on the left side of his chest.
A team of investigators visited the location and recovered a kitchen knife believed to be the weapon used in the crime.
Additionally, two mobile phones and bloodstained tissue papers hidden in a dustbin were also collected as evidence.
Incidents of stabbings and violent assaults have been increasing in various parts of Eastleigh, prompting police operations aimed at curbing this trend.
Investigations suggest that some of these incidents are influenced by Somali political issues and clan dynamics, which are significant factors within the community.
In response, police have assigned a specialized team of detectives from the Nairobi region and the DCI headquarters to concentrate on Eastleigh as part of broader crime reduction efforts.
Officials have noted that the area is experiencing rapid growth in various challenges, necessitating focused attention.
Law enforcement has reported that families in the vicinity are living in fear due to incidents where relatives have been targeted and subjected to torture for ransom.
“We have several victims currently hospitalized after being attacked and stabbed by roaming gangs,” stated an officer familiar with the situation.
In addition to the threats of robbery and extortion, at least five murder cases have occurred in the area within the past month, all of which have been resolved, according to police, who confirmed that suspects have been apprehended.
Four of these cases involve an Ethiopian-Somali man named Hashim Dagane Muhumed, who has been arrested and linked to four murder cases, all involving female victims in the area.
Authorities believe he may also be connected to other murder cases that have yet to be uncovered or revealed.
Authorities are looking into how Hashim, a suspect in the murders of four women, including a 12-year-old girl in Eastleigh, Nairobi, obtained a Kenyan identity card, despite indications that he may not be a Kenyan national.
