Authorities in Kitale are actively searching for a female suspect who allegedly fled the scene after fatally stabbing a student from the Kenya Medical Training College (KMTC).
The victim, 25-year-old Benedict Kiptoo, was in his final year at the Kitale campus and was preparing for graduation.
Reports indicate that he was stabbed in the left side of his neck during a confrontation in Kibomet, a locality on the outskirts of Kitale.
The suspect, identified as Mercy Masika, also known by her nickname Nancy Faiza, is believed to be his girlfriend.
Dr. Evans Letting, who attempted to provide medical assistance, reported that Benedict died from severe blood loss.
“We did everything possible to stabilize him, but his condition worsened quickly,” Dr. Letting remarked.
The incident has left Benedict’s family in deep sorrow. His mother, Gladys Kipkorir, has urged law enforcement to enhance their efforts in locating the suspect.
“We seek justice for my son. The authorities must respond promptly,” she implored.
Benedict’s uncle, Japheth Kipkorir, supported her call for accountability.
Trans Nzoia Deputy Police Commander Selasio Murethi confirmed the occurrence and reassured the community that investigations are in progress.
“We are diligently pursuing the suspect and are optimistic about achieving justice,” Murethi stated.
The county’s Health Executive, Sam Ojwang, condemned the act and called for a collective societal effort against gender-based violence.
Psychologist Vincent Agolla also provided insights, advising couples on conflict resolution to prevent such incidents.
This tragic event occurs amid a growing global movement against gender-based violence.
