Kenya National Union of Teachers (KNUT) Secretary General Collins Oyuu has expressed confidence in the ongoing negotiations with the Teachers Service Commission (TSC) regarding the Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA).

Speaking in Rongo town, Migori County, Oyuu noted that union representatives have engaged in several discussions with TSC. He remains hopeful that the teachers’ demands will be addressed by TSC in the near future.

One of the key issues KNUT is advocating for is the promotion of teachers who have remained in the same job group for an extended period.

Oyuu mentioned that TSC has indicated it received only Ksh.1.1 billion for promotions, which is insufficient to accommodate all eligible teachers.

He emphasized the need for increased funding to ensure that all teachers due for promotion can receive it. Oyuu highlighted that addressing teacher promotions is a critical issue that the government must prioritize.

Additionally, the KNUT Secretary General urged all stakeholders to support the Competency Based Curriculum (CBC). He acknowledged the challenges faced by the new curriculum but believes they can be resolved with collaborative efforts and adequate government funding.
