Athi River, Machakos County, police are looking into the death of a young girl on Sunday night when she was transported in a police vehicle.
Police said that the 14-year-old girl passed away after being picked up by them and her 30-year-old father, who had allegedly abused her at their Ndovoini the village in Muthwani, Athi River subcounty.
The case was reported as a possible murder/incest occurrence to the Kyumbi police station.
According to police, the victim, a Grade 5 pupil at a neighboring public school, and the suspect were picked up by the duty officer before the minor passed away. Her mother was also present.
According to authorities, the suspect was being held at the Kyumbi police station while investigations into both instances were underway. The body was brought to a mortuary pending an autopsy.
The investigations have been taken over by detectives from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations based at Kyumbi police station.
