Police in Homa Bay County have launched investigations into the fatal stabbing of a 44-year-old woman at her home in the Got Oyaro area, in what is suspected to be a domestic violence incident.
The deceased, identified as Everlyne Ongaro, was found dead near Doho Beach on January 5, after sustaining stab wounds.
Boyfriend Named as Prime Suspect
According to police, the main suspect is the woman’s boyfriend, a fisherman who operates in the area. Authorities said the suspect fled the scene after the attack and remains at large.
“The victim had stab wounds in the stomach,” police said, adding that the motive for the killing has not yet been established.
However, residents told investigators that the couple had reportedly quarreled shortly before the attack, raising suspicions of a domestic dispute that turned deadly.
Murder Weapon Recovered
Police officers who visited the scene confirmed that the suspected murder weapon was recovered. The body was later moved to a local mortuary, where it is being held pending a postmortem examination.
Meanwhile, a manhunt for the suspect was ongoing on Wednesday, as detectives intensified efforts to track him down.
Rising Murder Cases Raise Concern
Local authorities noted with concern that murder incidents have been on the rise in the region, with many cases linked to domestic disputes, love triangles, and land-related conflicts in rural villages.
Police urged residents to seek peaceful conflict resolution mechanisms and to report threats or violent disputes early to prevent loss of life.
