Police in Kakamega have launched investigations after the body of a 20-year-old woman who went missing on Friday was discovered in a septic tank under unclear circumstances.

The deceased, identified as Wendy Edaa, was found at the Jua Kali Phase 2 area in Shieywe Ward, on the outskirts of Kakamega town.

According to her mother, Lilian Lichina, the family had searched for Wendy in vain before receiving news of the grim discovery.

“Her body was found inside a septic tank behind a neighbor’s house,” Lichina told local media.

She believes her daughter may have been murdered before being dumped in the tank — a suspicion shared by Wendy’s father, Levi Mate.

The incident has sparked outrage among residents, led by Geoffrey Mushira, who are demanding justice for the victim and calling for legal action against those responsible, including the owner of the uncovered tank.

The body was moved to Kakamega County Referral Hospital Mortuary pending a post-mortem examination.
