Captain of the Harambee Stars, Michael Olunga, has departed from the Qatari Stars League team Al-Duhail after a four-year tenure.
The former striker for Gor Mahia, Tusker, and Thika United exits as the club’s all-time leading scorer, having netted 130 goals.

The imposing striker joined Duhail in 2021 on a three-year contract, with a reported transfer fee nearing Ksh. 1 billion.

At 31 years of age, he previously excelled with the Japanese club Kashiwa Reysol before making his lucrative transfer to Qatar.

In a statement, Al-Duhail Sports Club expressed its gratitude and appreciation to Kenyan striker Michael Olunga, the club’s historical goal scorer, for his outstanding contributions and exceptional performances during his tenure with the first team.

“Olunga has exemplified professionalism and discipline both on and off the field, significantly contributing to the club’s numerous achievements and championships, and has left an indelible mark on the club’s history through his crucial goals and contributions,” stated Al-Duhail.

“The Al-Duhail Club family wishes Michael Olunga all the best in his future endeavors and assures that the club’s doors will always remain open to the historic goal scorer. Thank you, Olunga. You will forever be a vital part of the Duhail family,” the club further added.

Olunga took to social media to announce his exit from the club following a disappointing season that resulted in Al Duhail finishing without any trophies.

“Veni Vidi Vici. Thank you for everything, Al Duhail. I leave as the all-time goal scorer with 130 goals and cherished memories. Thank you for the trust,” Olunga stated on his social media platforms.
