Authorities have initiated investigations following a burglary at a church in Kirinyaga, where intruders consumed altar wine, devoured sacramental bread, and absconded with church belongings.

Local residents are still in disbelief over the incident that took place at ACK St. Matthew’s Mutithi Church.

As reported by the church’s vice chairman, Eliud Githaka, the theft was brought to light by choir members who noticed the keyboard was missing.

The night guard has been accused of negligence, as the theft occurred during his watch.

“The guard failed to notice that the church had been breached, and we suspect he may have been asleep while on duty,” residents remarked.

Police officers arrived at the church on Monday night and reassured the congregation that the investigation is in progress.

Church officials further stated, “We are now compelled to hire our own security staff rather than depending on the current guard.”
