Detectives are currently looking into an incident involving a soldier from the Kenya Defence Forces who was discovered deceased in his residence, following a suspected suicide in Tassia, Nairobi.

As reported by military and police sources, senior private Gilbert Laboso was found lifeless in his home after allegedly hanging himself with a tie from his wardrobe.

This tragic event occurred on the morning of Monday, May 26. At that time, he was alone in the house.

The soldier’s wife informed the police and military officials that she had left the house to run errands, and upon her return in the afternoon, she discovered her husband deceased.

She further mentioned that he had been struggling with depression.

The body has been transported to the mortuary, where it will await an autopsy and further investigations.

In a related incident, a female KDF soldier took her own life in her residence in Kahawa Sukari, Nairobi, in April.

Military and police authorities reported that the body of Precious Mabonga, aged 24, was found hanging from the metal bars in her bathroom on April 24.

She was stationed at the nearby Kahawa Barracks.

Such incidents have been increasing within the military, despite ongoing efforts to address this concerning trend.

Similar to police officers, numerous soldiers have succumbed to suicide, a phenomenon attributed to work-related stress.

Officials indicate that police officers often bear the brunt of various community issues.

They are tasked with upholding law and order in extremely challenging circumstances, all while risking their own lives.

Over the years, a rise in fatalities within the service has been associated with trauma.
