President William Ruto and former Prime Minister Raila Odinga have officially forged a political alliance aimed at collaborating within a unified government.

The agreement between Ruto’s United Democratic Alliance (UDA) and Raila’s Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) was formally signed on Friday at the Kenyatta International Convention Centre (KICC).

Both leaders affixed their signatures to the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU), accompanied by officials from their respective parties.

Following the signing, ODM National Chairperson and Homa Bay Governor Gladys Wanga praised the new collaboration, emphasizing the importance of prioritizing national interests over personal agendas.

“The unity, stability, and prosperity of our nation is a collective responsibility, not just that of a select few. Despite our diverse political beliefs and backgrounds, unity is something we can all support. Equity is essential,” she remarked.

“This partnership established today transcends just the two of you; Baba has experienced it all and has enough wisdom for generations. The President has held various positions. Therefore, I believe this unity is for the youth, women, the marginalized… it is for all Kenyans who have felt excluded from the nation.”

Her UDA counterpart and Embu County leader Cecily Mbarire echoed these sentiments, commending the transparency of the process and the MoU’s provisions.

Mbarire further applauded President Ruto and Raila for setting aside their differences and rigid positions for the greater good of the country.
