Detectives are currently probing a tragic incident at Kenyatta National Hospital in Nairobi, where a patient was found murdered in his ward.

According to police and hospital officials, the male patient was discovered dead in his bed with a slashed throat. Witnesses, including other patients, reported that an intruder entered the ward and attacked the patient early Friday morning.

Upon investigation, police confirmed the presence of an intruder and noted that the CCTV cameras were non-operational at the time of the incident. The hospital expressed deep sorrow over the patient’s death.

Dr. William Sigilai, the acting CEO of Kenyatta National Hospital, stated that an investigation is underway.

“Our hearts go out to the family of the deceased during this challenging time. We are collaborating closely with law enforcement and have initiated an internal inquiry to uncover the details surrounding this incident,” he remarked.

Dr. Sigilai emphasized the hospital’s commitment to ensuring a safe environment for everyone, stating, “The safety and well-being of our patients, staff, and visitors are our top priority.”

This incident echoes a similar tragedy that occurred nine years ago at the same hospital, where a patient was brutally murdered in November 2015. That victim had been admitted on November 8 and was found dead overnight, suffering from stab wounds and having one eye gouged out. At the time, he was in the company of a deaf and incapacitated cancer patient, with three nurses on duty. The sole witness to that horrific event was a 12-year-old patient who was unable to hear, speak, or write.
