A 23-year-old man was fatally shot during a home invasion in Maralal, Samburu County.

The incident occurred early Thursday morning in Ngano village, Poro location, when armed assailants targeted a residence in an attempt to steal cattle.

The victim, identified as Leonard Lendunda, had stepped outside after hearing a disturbance when he was shot in the left side of his chest, dying instantly.

Following the gunfire, the attackers managed to drive off with five cows from the property before an alarm was raised.

Members of the National Police Reserve, alerted by the shots, quickly responded and pursued the fleeing gang.

According to police reports, the suspects headed towards the Opiroi area, where the NPR team set up an ambush, leading to a shootout.

The bandits abandoned the stolen cattle in their haste to escape, and the animals were returned to their rightful owner.

Authorities later arrived at the scene, retrieved the deceased man’s body, and transported it to the local mortuary for an autopsy and further investigation.

Police are currently looking into the murder case and are determined to apprehend those responsible for the attack.
