A man was lynched in Kaloleni, Machakos County, after allegedly attempting to murder his uncle.
According to Machakos County police commander Patrick Lobolia, the man faced mob justice after he reportedly attacked his uncle in the Kaloleni area on Wednesday. Enraged locals apprehended him before the situation escalated further.
“The deceased was subjected to mob justice after he tried to kill his uncle,” Lobolia stated in a phone interview with the Star on Thursday.
The uncle was quickly taken to a hospital, while the body of the deceased was transported to the mortuary. This incident occurred just days after another man was lynched in a similar situation in the nearby Kiumoni village, where he was killed by an angry mob after allegedly murdering his mother under mysterious circumstances.
The 30-year-old man had informed his uncles about the crime, which incited the community’s fury, leading to his lynching.
“Both individuals faced mob justice in these separate incidents,” Lobolia remarked, condemning the community’s actions.
He urged residents not to take the law into their own hands, emphasizing that two wrongs do not make a right. “People should refrain from lynching those who commit crimes. It’s essential to remain disciplined and respect the rule of law,” Lobolia advised.
He called on all Kenyans to adhere to the law and report any suspected criminal activities before they escalate, to prevent such tragic events.
“We must stop the violence against parents, which may sometimes be fueled by substance abuse. The public should share information about those involved in drug trade and use, both locally and nationally,” Lobolia concluded.
