A Christmas celebration in Gem Yala sub-county took a tragic turn when a Grade 8 student drowned in a swimming pool at Akang’o Pride Hotel, located in Sawadha rural village, Siaya County.
As reported by the police, the student from Nyamninia Primary School was enjoying a family Christmas outing at the hotel when the unfortunate incident occurred.
The pool attendant immediately entered the water to attempt a rescue and successfully brought the student to the surface.
Despite efforts to revive him, these attempts proved futile. Family members quickly transported him to a nearby private hospital, where he was declared dead upon arrival.
The body has since been moved to the mortuary at Yala sub-county hospital, where a postmortem examination is awaited.
