Detectives from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) have apprehended three individuals suspected of murdering a bar security guard prior to stealing several bottles of beer valued at Ksh.26,000.

The suspects were captured at different locations, with the first, Festus Odhiambo, also known as Arum, aged 31, being arrested in Migori. His accomplices, Thomas Momanyi Omenta, also 31, and 26-year-old Grace Kerubo Oseko, were taken into custody in Kisii township.

According to the DCI, investigators recovered crucial evidence, including a set of blood-stained clothing from the first suspect and stolen mobile phones from the other two.

The suspects are alleged to have ambushed the 22-year-old guard at Engako Bar, situated in the Nyachenge trading centre in Kisii, where they assaulted him with crude weapons, leaving him critically injured before robbing the establishment.

“As the victim succumbed to his injuries, his attackers broke into the bar and fled with Ksh.26,000 worth of alcoholic beverages,” stated the DCI.

The incident was reported to the police by the Tabaka area chief, prompting a manhunt that ultimately led to the suspects’ arrest.

Following their capture, the Sub-County Head of Investigations organized an identification parade on Friday, as it was revealed that the suspects had been present at the bar on the night of the murder. Several regular patrons were able to identify them.

The three individuals are currently detained at Nyamarambe Police Station and are being processed under a miscellaneous application to facilitate ongoing investigations.
