Three children, aged between 4 and 10 years, were tragically burned beyond recognition when a fire consumed the house they were locked in under mysterious circumstances on Friday evening.
The minors, including a disabled 10-year-old, had been secured inside by a sibling who went to a neighbor’s house to play in Moburo village, located in Kapsogut, Kericho County.
Local residents reported that the fire completely destroyed the family’s main dwelling, which was built from timber and iron sheets, leaving nothing behind.
It is alleged that the children’s parents were away at the time of the incident and had left a phone charging, which may have exploded and ignited the blaze.
According to witnesses, some neighbors saw thick smoke rising from the property and rushed over, only to find the house fully engulfed in flames.
Efforts to extinguish the fire were unsuccessful, as the dry timber used in the house’s construction and the windy conditions exacerbated the situation.
The incident was reported to the Cheborgei Police Station, and officers quickly arrived at the scene to recover the charred remains, which were subsequently taken to the mortuary at Kapkatet Hospital.
Authorities have initiated an investigation to determine the precise cause of the fire.
