Kenya Railways has announced the operational schedule for the Kisumu – Nairobi train service.
The train is set to leave Nairobi terminus every Friday at 5:20 PM, arriving in Kisumu at 6:30 AM the following day. Along the route, it will make 24 stops, with durations ranging from two minutes to two hours.
The scheduled stops include Ngong, Mai Mahiu, Longonot, Naivasha, Gilgil, Mbaruk, Nakuru, Nakuru Junction, and Njoro, as well as Elburgon, Turi, Molo, Mau Summit, Londiani, Kedowa, Kipkelion, Tunnel, Fort Tenan, Koru, Muhoroni, Chemilil, Kibigori, Miwani, and Kibos.
The first stop on the way to Kisumu is Ngong at 6:05 PM, while the last stop is Kibos at 6:12 AM.
The return journey from Kisumu will commence at 6:30 PM, with an expected arrival in Nairobi at 7:04 AM. The first stop on this leg is Kibos at 6:43 PM, and the final stop is Ngong at 6:15 AM.
Link trains from Nairobi Central Station to Nairobi Terminus will depart at 12:50 PM, reaching the terminus by 1:37 PM.
Kenya Railways has advised travelers needing to cancel or reschedule their trips to do so at least 24 hours prior to their scheduled departure.
This schedule follows the recent announcement regarding the resumption of the Kisumu Safari train service. On Tuesday, it was noted that passengers traveling from Nairobi will need to take three consecutive trains to reach Kisumu.
Travelers are reminded to limit their luggage to a maximum width of 160 cm and length of 200 cm. Ticket prices are set at Sh900 for economy class and Sh2,400 for first class.
The train will depart from Nairobi Central Station every Friday at 4 PM, arriving at Kisumu station the next morning. Passengers are encouraged to arrive at the station at least one hour before departure to ensure a smooth boarding process.
As per the provided route map, the commuter train will leave Nairobi Central Station at 4 PM.
Passengers are scheduled to leave Nairobi Terminus on the Madaraka Express train heading to Maai Mahiu station at 5:20 pm.
Following this, they will transfer to an MGR train, which is set to depart at 6:55 pm.
The expected arrival time at Kisumu station is 6:30 am.
This announcement is welcomed news for many Kenyans who are planning to travel during the festive season.
Kenya Railways has confirmed that the Kisumu safari train service will officially resume on December 6.
