At least five individuals lost their lives and three others sustained injuries following the collapse of a wall during a funeral gathering in Jomvu, Mombasa County.
According to police reports, the deceased include four women and one man, while all the injured individuals are women.
Police stated that Chief Binti Saidi Mwangolo informed them that around 2:30 PM, a perimeter wall collapsed in the Miritini area.
Officers from Maganda Police Station, DCI Jomvu, and Aps Jomvu quickly arrived at the scene, where it was determined that an aging perimeter wall surrounding Kusco Company had fallen onto mourners attending the funeral.
Authorities indicated that the wall’s collapse was triggered by the heavy rainfall that the county has been experiencing.
“The bodies of the deceased have been transported to Coast General Hospital mortuary for preservation pending autopsy,” the police report noted.
