A tragic atmosphere has settled over Kapsinendet village in the Konoin area of Bomet County following the fatal stabbing of a young woman by her partner, who subsequently took his own life.
Authorities have identified the man as 26-year-old Mathew Kipngeno Kirui, while the victim is 22-year-old Shaline Chepkoech.
Shaline was attacked in her father’s yard, suffering a stab wound to the chest.
“My daughter was speaking with the young man in one of the rooms when she suddenly emerged from the house, bleeding and crying out,” recounted her father, Mr. David Tanui.
She succumbed to her injuries while being transported to Liten hospital.
Investigators found blood-stained shoes and Shaline’s mobile phone at the scene, but the murder weapon remains missing.
Kipngeno’s lifeless body was later discovered hanging in the nearby Kapset village.
David Kandie, the police commandant for Konoin sub-county, confirmed the incident and stated that they are working to reconstruct the events leading up to this tragedy.
“We are still unclear about the circumstances, but it seems there may have been a dispute between the couple before this tragic outcome. We are also in the process of locating the murder weapon,” Commandant Kandie noted.
Both bodies have been transported to the mortuary at Kapkatet hospital.
