A man suspected of being involved in gun trafficking was shot and injured during an encounter with law enforcement in Lodwar Town, Turkana County.

Authorities reported that on November 24, they received information indicating that the suspect was in the vicinity with a firearm intended for sale to a potential buyer in Meru.

In response, police set up an ambush along the Lodwar-Kitale Highway, leading to the arrest of three individuals who were en route to Meru to deliver the weapon.

According to police accounts, the suspects reacted violently, which led officers to discharge warning shots into the air.

When the suspects disregarded these warnings, one officer shot an armed individual wielding a knife in the left knee, resulting in injury.

Additionally, law enforcement recovered a Turkish-made EKOL P.29 pistol along with a magazine containing five rounds of .22mm ammunition.

The suspects are currently in custody and will be presented in court.

Police have been actively addressing the issue of illegal firearm possession in the country and are investigating the origins of these weapons.
