The remains of an unidentified male were discovered on Friday in the Rwamuthambi River, located in Getuya village within the Ndia constituency of Kirinyaga County.
Local residents found the body while collecting water from the river and promptly alerted the appropriate authorities, who arrived at the scene to conduct an investigation.
“I was merely passing by when a neighbor informed me of a body in the river. Upon my arrival, we confirmed it was a man’s body, and we immediately contacted the authorities,” stated Peter Warui, a local resident.
The community suspects that the individual may have been murdered elsewhere before his body was disposed of in the river.
“There is a strong suspicion that the man was killed in a different location and then dumped here. The area is quite overgrown, and we hope that detectives will uncover more details during their investigation. It is perplexing why someone would commit such an act and leave a body in this place,” remarked another resident.
The police have since transported the body to the Kerugoya Hospital Mortuary, where it will await postmortem examination and identification.
