In Nyali, Mombasa County, law enforcement officials have detained a suspect found with cannabis sativa, commonly known as bhang, valued at over Ksh. 25 million.

The 30-year-old individual, Cynthia Anyango, was apprehended by officers from Kadzandani Police Station during a raid on the residence of a suspected drug trafficker.

The authorities seized 16 sacks of bhang weighing a total of 864.9 kilograms from a property located in Green Estate, Kiembeni.

The Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) issued a statement on Friday revealing that the operation was based on a tip-off from the community; however, the principal suspect managed to escape.

“During the raid on the suspected trafficker’s hideout, law enforcement uncovered a large cache, comprising 16 substantial sacks of cannabis, amounting to 864.9 kgs and carrying an estimated street value of Ksh. 25,407,000,” the DCI remarked.

Cynthia Anyango, who was present at the scene, has been taken into custody and is currently assisting police in their efforts to locate the primary suspect who evaded capture.

The seized cannabis will be held as evidence as detectives intensify their battle against drug trafficking in the area.
