Two suspects and an accomplice have been arrested at Burburis area, Garissa County, following a string of violent robberies in the area recently.
Ali Isaac Muhumed and Muhumed Bare Hussein were flushed out from their hideout alongside Habiba Yusuf, who is accused of hosting the suspects believed to have been involved in at least six robbery cases in September.
Police also recovered an AK47 rifle, six rounds of ammunition, 12 mobile phones, two knives, a cash safe, a car, among other items.
The aftermath of the intelligence-led operation saw a recovery of mattresses, bags, and water jerricans scattered in different corners of the disarranged house.
“We got intelligence information, and we mounted a team which led us to this site where we are, and we were able to nab two individuals. We also arrested a woman who has been hosting them, and the case is still under investigation,” said Garissa OCPD Samuel Boit.
Police say over the last three weeks, the suspects are alleged to have been involved in six robbery incidents, where two M-Pesa operators lost over Ksh.1.5 million.
“Tuko na habari kwamba hiki ni kikundi kikubwa na tungependa kuwatangazia hao wengine kwamba tuko mbioni na tutawanasa,” Garissa Deputy County Commissioner Thomas Bett said.
Boit added: “We have solidified the collection of intelligence, and I would like to tell the people of Garissa that they should live knowing that security has been beefed up.”
The three suspects are currently being detained at Garissa Police Station and are expected to appear in court on Monday.
Security officials in the area have vowed to flush out all those behind cases of insecurity.
