Authorities in Homa Bay have initiated an inquiry into the tragic passing of a University of Nairobi lecturer, believed to have taken his own life at his residence in Kachola Village, located in Kodera South, Rachuonyo South Sub-County.
The body of Dr. Samwel Owino Mwanda was discovered hanging from a tree within his property on Thursday.
As reported by South Kodera Senior Chief Joseph Mboga, the academic had recently returned home from Nairobi, and it was his employee who made the horrific find.
Hassan Barua, the police chief of Homa Bay County, has verified the occurrence.
He reported that Dr. Owino enjoyed dinner with a colleague on Wednesday evening and was scheduled to return to Nairobi on Friday.
Barua also revealed that authorities discovered a ladder positioned near the tree, along with a note containing his wife’s phone number.
The remains have since been transferred to the mortuary in Rachuonyo South Sub-County.
