Following a fire that broke out in one of the dorms at Hillside Endarasha Academy in Kieni West, Nyeri County, at least sixteen pupils have been confirmed to be dead.
Dr. Resilia Onyango, a spokeswoman for the National Police Service, confirmed the incident and stated that 14 more pupils who had severe burns had been rushed to the hospital.
The Thursday night fire rendered the dead pupils unrecognizable.
It has not yet been determined what started the fire.
A team of police officers has been sent to the school to begin investigating the event, and they are being led by Director of Homicide Martin Nyuguto and Deputy Director of CID John Onyango.
